Do you have to be rich to work from home? No but most people believe they have to be with money to start working from home. This is a misconception. Finding the right work is usually the problem, with so many scams out there you will need to avoid falling prey to them.
If you were to search the web for home-based business sites you would probably come up with as many as fourteen plus answers to your search. You must be careful not to apply to the work at home opportunities while search for an at home position, unless that is what you are really looking for. Just remember opportunities usually cost you money to get started and the other does not.
In searching the Internet there is a website that offers morale support for home-based business people that work in their home no scams companies are on the internet some do charge for their services and these websites are great for the home-based businesses. This website also lists probable companies that are hiring, how to articles, etc.
This Internet site will also point out the scams, the websites that are scams and give you helpful hints on how to balance work out of your home with your family. So that your family is not more dominate than your work and vice verse.
Working at a home-based business takes discipline. It really is not for everyone. One of the negatives is that it can be pretty lonely. One of the positives is it does not take gas to get to work. If you can work alone without any one looking over your shoulder supervision, or without a co-worker to occasionally joke with. If you will not miss the drive back and forth to the old work place, or the car pool, the decision to take lunch or to buy lunch then maybe working from home is a good thing for you.
Some approach the working home career like when they had to work for an employer. You are the employer and you will need strict rules to following for yourself because you do not make that deadline or do sloppy work then there is no one to blame but yourself. And you will loose business and end up hunting work under an employer. Your work will be of the highest quality because you want other companies to use you for their work all the time not just a one time project.
After finding and landing a working career from home projects, you need to work on the relationship. Relationship? Yes the one that now exists between you and your at home boss. Your new boss has taken a big trust step and you got to prove to him that his trust was not misplaced. You now have similarities to your old office job. Deadlines. You will need to show the new boss that you can meet his deadlines.
Your trust in the new boss is your paycheck. It is easy to expect one in an office because you do not expect the office to pick up and run away from you. Now you are both on the trust issue. You are trusting the new boss to pay you when he said he would after you had fulfilled everything he asked. Here comes payday, the day it would be agreed upon, is your money in the account? Yes, now you are in a work at home position and something to look forward to everyday. Working from home is everyone’s dream of getting rid of the office politics etc. Having a home-based business is real and it can happen for you. Do you have to be rich to work from home? No.

Totally agree, you do not have to have tons of money to start working from home. The earlier you start, the better!
Do you have to be rich? Not necessarily. Will working from home make you rich? Now there’s another question.
Working from home is not easy, it requires a lot of discipline, a lot of drive and a great sense of organization and time management. Otherwise, it will not only be lonely (as you mentioned) but a constant struggle just trying to get things done…when you’re on a deadline and you have other roles to fulfill after work (parent, child, partner…take your pick), you also have to find balance.
I love having myself as my own boss…I didn’t need a lot of money to do this, but I sure am happy I did it!

Your absolutely right, I haven’t stopped to figure out exactly how much money (or time) I’ve save not having to commute, but I can tell you I’m about $300.00 a month richer just from not having to eat out everyday (which, sadly I did).
I LOVE working from home. I don’t drive any where and now get just about every thing delivered here, including groceries. I’m tempted to rid myself of the car and therefore dropping the insurance. But alas, my little boy just got his junior license so I will for now, make him do the errands I can’t have delivered, such as depositing the checks that get mailed to my house for the work I do at the home studio.
You do have to be disciplined and sometimes family thinks because you are home, you are at their beck and call. You have to shut that down, including just letting their phone calls go to message (if it’s that important they’ll leave a message so you can tend to it), getting them to take on more responsibility (just because I’m home, I’m NOT making you lunch), shut the door and put out the “I’m at work” sign.
I started this jewelry assembly business from scratch, one piece at a time. I didn’t have any money and it started as a part time income. Now it has really taken hold. If you put in the time, energy, and focus into what you do, you will be able to make a living. I found that I spend way less money working at home and therefore I’ve been really able to boost the household savings. Little boy is going to college next year!
Please forgive me but while this *is* a smart article, I got caught in those run-on sentences. Proof, my friend!
However, with that said, I have to agree with Jewelry Assembly Chicks. I have a friend who calls me almost once a day and asks if I’d like to make a run here or there. While it’s appreciated, I find myself constantly re-explaining that just because I’m working in my home office doesn’t mean my time is free. Even if I’m researching for a client or sending out marketing brochures, the point is I treat my days just as I did when I commuted to someone else’s office to make a living.
Sometimes the best way to communicate is silence. When I don’t take calls all day and then check my messages to find I didn’t miss anything at all, those that really care get the message. And those that don’t . . . well, I’ve got an empire to build. I’ll catch them later, too!
I love that statement Patricia “I’ve got an empire to build!” Very cool!
Some people find they get too distracted working from home, others that they work way too much. Very few find that in between balance!
You know, I’m going to add one more thing and I don’t know if this article will get revived but I hope it will.
I’m 43 years old. Love my life, don’t mind working hard, but this is not our parents’ world. There’s no guarantee social security will be there to help us make ends meet when it’s time for us to retire (*if* we ever can). With the state of the current economy, it’s not unusual to meet people whose primary source of income may be great, but they’re still working on multiple streams of income.
I’d rather work a little harder now while it comes easy so that by the time I do consider retirement, I just might have a super-thriving business that allows me the freedom I want.
And the great thing about social media is that it has opened my doors to the world. I’ve yet to meet the first client I acquired last year. The business is in Oregon and we work wonderfully together. Having the possibility of bringing in business from our seats is an amazing asset that we didn’t have not too long ago.
I think it’s fantastic for those of us carving our ways out on our own. Even though I don’t have children, I also think it’s spectacular for those that do who can show their children how to run their own businesses early. It will help them in their futures whether working for others or for themselves down the line!
