One of the easiest seeming tasks you might think exists for your blog or business is choosing an appropriate logo. Don’t be misled; it isn’t anywhere near as easy as you might at first think. Choosing a logo is an important task that will usually be with you for the life of your business, and while it is possible to change it out later on in usually isn’t financially viable since you’ve most likely invested a lot of time, money, and energies in getting it known.
Choosing a logo is something that you should probably take your time with, spend a day or two looking at the different logo’s that other companies have gone with, and list out the different traits that you think you’d like to incorporate into your own. A great logo will be memorable to those who see it later on down the road, and they will come to associate it with your brand, your blog, and your products.
A good logo designer will be able to incorporate more than just a simple image with the logo, they will also be able to convey a message of sorts to those who see and understand it. Many designers make use of the negative space to depict another, sometimes more subtle image than gets missed my many until it is pointed out. For example I’m sure you are all aware of the Fed Ex logo, but how many of you noticed the arrow pointing forward for the direction the company is moving?
It’s also important to make sure you choose one that can be scaled to fit your needs whether that be the header on your stationary, or the billboard outside your office, (you do have a billboard right?), make sure you have all the source files that you need to create other graphics and documents that will include your logo, also a greyscale version for trademark purposes is a good idea.
Also it’s important to use colors that are reflective of your business or industry and will hold a wide appeal for your perspective audience as well. Don’t be afraid to use black and white if they fit with your current image.
Ask to see the designer’s portfolio to get an idea of the quality of work he or she has produced for other companies and individuals. Don’t be afraid to say no to someone who really wants to do the job for you, after all this is something you have to be happy with for a really long time. I’d recommend you see portfolio’s for six to twelve different designers just to make sure you get the one that is the best fit for you and your business.
A high quality logo can be expensive, and while you might think that it isn’t worth it for something that at first glance seems quite simple, there is actually a lot of work that goes into the concept and creation stage, not to mention the design stage where they actually take the image that the artist has drawn on paper, and transferring it to digital media, and adding in the colors, shades, and anything else you have chosen.

Nice post, great tips, thanks.
Logo designing is no joke. There is intense competition now which is good for clients but not so good for designers however the demand for quality logos is on the rise and I suspect more and more logo designers would find lucrative offers in the coming years.
