It’s important for you to recognize the goal of any marketing objective, and keep things in focus so that you don’t weave and wander across your internet marketing path more than is absolutely necessary.
In our line of work, there is so much information, and so many goals and targets that it’s quite easy to get sidetracked and forget just what it was you were aiming for in the first place.
For each aspect of your business you should have a clear call to action, and know what the objective is, where the potential market can be found, and what objective you wish to obtain from that market.
If your primary goal with a website is to build an optin list, then it hardly makes sense for you to put ads, or banners or even content for that matter. You would be better off offering a quality gift, having your sales copy that demonstrates the value and benefits of the free gift, and your optin box, that’s it!
However it is likely you will have multiple priorities with your business, or your website, but you need to sit down and decide which areas are going to be priorities and spend the time to master or accomplish those before moving on to conquer another area. Most of us want to have a dozen successful aspects to our websites, and end up spreading ourselves thin because of it, we want:
- Lots of traffic to our site
- Lots of people to optin to our email list, because let’s face they aren’t likely to buy on their first visit and this lets you remind them who you are, and what you have to offer.
- We want a high page rank so that we can charge more for banners or advertising spots.
- We want lots of high quality content to offer our readers.
- We want lots of comments
- We want huge Twitter followers or Facebook fans.
- We want checks from Google monthly.
- We want to sell banner advertising or have successful affiliate banner sales happening.
And you could easily add another fifty items to this list without much trouble at all, so you see how it can be challenging to build a successful website when we have all these areas to focus on.
So how do we succeed at so many different areas? By writing out a clear call to action that takes into account each of these areas of our business, or website and gives them a priority rating. I know we’d all like all these areas be the number one focus, but it just isn’t possible, you can only have one top priority. But it can help if you have a clear idea of what that is, and work accordingly.
You need to list your priorities according to your expectations, or values and then work toward that goal with single minded purpose until you’ve accomplished it. That isn’t to say you have to ignore the others, because you can’t, you have to find the best balance between all of your goals, and when you achieve the number 1 priority goal, you can reevaluate and decide which new one is going to take its place.
Having a clear call to action will take your website to new levels much quicker, and give you the comfort of knowing you have a plan in place and are working smartly!

This is a great reminder to remember the basics. A clear call to action can make a huge difference in the results we achieve. But, as you said, sometimes we have so many things we would like to accomplish that it really helps to prioritize our objectives and give them a priority rating and move forward accordingly.
