Reasons Why You Keep Losing Twitter Followers

Reasons Why You Keep Losing Twitter Followers

Are you tired of losing more and more Twitter followers every day? You don’t have to lose them but it will require you to change what you are doing. What most people don’t realize is the reason they are losing Twitter followers is because they are the ones doing something wrong. I know you don’t want to believe it but this is a common thing that Twitter users do and unless you figure out what you are doing wrong you will keep losing the followers that you have.

Reasons You Are Losing Followers

Too Many Tweets

How many Tweets to you do every day? Are you doing too many that your followers are getting tired of seeing your updates? A lot of people Tweet too many times but if you are Tweeting things that people like, then keep doing it. Just know that some people would prefer to see fewer Tweets so make sure you figure out what your followers like the most.

Repeat Following

Do you follow and then unfollow a lot of people on a daily basis? It might be a bad idea to follow hundreds of people in a single day and that is why a lot of people will stop following you. Although this is a great way to get more followers, your actual followers might not like it. Just know that it would be better to get your followers the right way as opposed to using the system to get as many followers as you can.

No Profile

Do you have a profile on your Twitter account? If you are not using your profile to actually say what you talk about, then people will start to unfollow you. The problem that I see quite a bit is that Twitter users will add a profile that doesn’t even represent what they will be Tweeting. Just do yourself and your followers a favor and create a Twitter profile that shows what you will be Tweeting.

Affiliate Links

How many affiliate links do you post on your Twitter account? Do you add an affiliate link every few hours or do you place affiliate links every week or so? The amount of affiliate links that you Tweet will make a huge difference in the amount of people that follow you. My advice is to make sure that you are using affiliate links sparingly because this is one of the worst things that you can use in a Tweet.

Constant Replies

Are you constantly replying to Tweets other people do? Do you use hashtags whenever possible? These might be the reason for you losing your Twitter followers. The problem with putting @XXXX in your Tweet is that most people won’t know what you are talking about, this goes for hashtags too. If you want to keep the following that you have, then you need to use replies and hashtags sparingly. Trust me on this one, this is a common reason people will unfollow you. I know this for a fact because this is one of the reasons I will unfollow people as well. Most people don’t like to see a bunch of gibberish so make sure that whatever you are writing will make sense to everybody that is reading it.

Being that Twitter is a great way to get more traffic to your website you need to use it but make sure you are aware of what you are doing. I know that there is a lot of stuff that you are worried about right now but Twitter should not be one of them.

Tracking Your Link Building Efforts

Tracking Your Link Building Efforts

Google is by and large the best source of free traffic available on the web today, and in order to take full advantage of that traffic we have to pay attention to certain SEO (Search Engine Optimization) aspects which include link building. Generally speaking, the more links, and the more powerful they are, the better the rankings you can expect in the search engines.

Building links usually gets outsourced to SEO “experts” because website and blog owners think there is some secret aspect to the whole process, but truth be told there are plenty of high ranking sites out there that are being run by people just like you. They say “practice makes perfect” and with the repetitive nature of link building you’ll soon be an “expert” yourself.

When building links to your site it’s important to remember that your site is made up of inner pages as well as a homepage. Link generously to all your pages and then interlink within your site to take full advantage of the SEO benefits that come with those links.

Link diversity is something that pertains to building an assortment of links rather than focusing the majority of your time on one you might find “easy” or “comfortable”. Many people get in the habit of only using commenting as a means of getting links and totally miss out on the numerous other methods out there.

Here are a few of the links you can look at using in your own link building campaigns:

  • Blog Commenting – Also a great way to get to know other bloggers in your niche.
  • Forum posting – Most forums will allow you a signature that can include a link back to your website or blog, the more you post on those forums the more links you are effectively building from that particular site.
  • Guest Posts – This is definitely one of the best ways to get a link from many of the higher profile sites in your industry. When you consider that companies are paying anywhere from $25.00 to $75.00 or more a month for a simple text link within a blog post you truly start to see the value here.
  • Social Bookmarking – Generally these links aren’t as valuable as some others, but they are relatively easy to obtain, and adding them to your link portfolio is always a good choice.
  • Directories – Now there are premium directories like Yahoo, DMOZ, Eaton, BOTW that carry a decent amount of SEO benefit all on their own, but there are also free and low quality ones that require literally thousands to be of any use to you at all. I’d suggest investing in at least two of the premium ones, and as many of the others as you’ve got the patience to build. (Tip: RoboForm will fill out the fields on directory sites making your job a lot easier)
  • Link Exchanges – This is when blogger A links to blogger B, and blogger B reciprocates. Generally you’ll be able to choose the keyword and anchor text to be used which goes a lot further than a link using just your name, or domain name.
  • Paid Links – This is where you pay for the link on a site (usually on a monthly or annual basis). These links are against Google’s TOS (terms of service) and can get you penalized if someone reports you, or if you’re found out some other way. I’d recommend staying away from these.
  • Web 2.0 Properties are a great place to expand your reach while at the same time getting a link that can then be improved (by building links to the property itself). Squidoo, Hubpages, and Blogger are just a few of the literally hundreds that are available to use freely.

Now there are many more links a person can get such as software download sites (create, or have a piece of handy software designed and then upload it to the hundreds of high ranking software sites that are online. Images, Video’s, eBooks and more can all be used to generate links to your website. The only limits are your imagination and creativity.

All this link building effort should be tracked so that you can see at a glance where and how your links are being placed as well as the effect they are having on your site’s rankings. A few things you might want to keep track of are:

  • Date – this is the date the link went live, you can also note dates you checked to see if the link was still in place. (You’d probably only do this for your top 100 most valuable links)
  • URL – Location or website the link is on.
  • Contact or email of the person or site owner responsible for placing the link.
  • Anchor text used to link back to you.
  • PageRank, or authority of the domain, or individual page. (A good trick is to build links to these links in order to increase their PageRank. Most website owners will also be improving their sites which will eventually trickle down to the individual articles themselves so over time all your links could become much more valuable and powerful.
  • Where the link is pointing on your site. (Homepage, individual post, etc.)
  • Notes Section – As you notice increases in keyword rankings or PageRank you can jot them down here.

There might be other aspects you’d like to track and there are no hard and fast rules, but the simple act of tracking your links serves to act as a performance document and tracking sheet. It also tends to lend itself toward motivation, because most of us like to see measurable results increasing over time as a direct result of our efforts. And last it also serves to legitimize your blog, or business. Inventory lists, operations manuals, sales tracking sheets, etc. all show that an individual is taking his or her blog seriously.

Why Your Article Marketing Sucks

Why Your Article Marketing Sucks
Are you using article marketing to try and get more traffic and more links? This is a common tactic that bloggers use and the reason is because it works, well, when done right it does. Although article marketing works, most people think that it sucks and they think this for good reason. What you need to understand is that most people write articles for the wrong reason, they link to the wrong page and they just don’t do enough marketing.

Article marketing is one of those things that you need to do in order to increase the exposure of your website and if you don’t, then your site is sure to fail. If you want to take your website to the next level, then I strongly recommend that you listen and remember the reasons why your article marketing sucks.

Why Your Articles Suck

Trying To Sell

Have you ever read an article where the person couldn’t hide how bad they were trying to sell you on something? This is what happens with most article marketers, what you need to understand is trying to sell through an article is not how to make a sale. The only way you will ever make your article work for you is by simply trying to be informative. What I highly recommend is that you change your vocabulary so that it doesn’t include any sales words or phrases and make sure that you are not trying to sell the first time somebody is introduced to your writing. Selling is something that is done much faster and easier when somebody trusts you and what you have to say.

Write Bad Articles

Your articles will always suck if you write bad ones. What a lot of people do is they hire somebody else to do their article marketing for them and then they simply submit their work. What you need to understand is that articles need to be written with a purpose and with quality information. If you can’t write articles (or hire somebody to write quality articles), then article marketing is never going to amount to anything.

Don’t Write Enough

How often do you write articles for the purpose of article marketing? If you are only writing 2 articles a week, then you need to write more. My advice is to write at least 1 article per day in order to keep your website growing and gain more traffic. I know that 2 articles per day might be a lot to you but the truth is that if you keep it up you will see the results very soon.

Topic Isn’t Relevant

If you are writing to get people to your website, then writing on a relevant topic is a must. Something that I have seen a lot lately is people putting links in articles that are not even generally related to one another. One thing that you need to understand is that nobody is going to click a link about curling irons if they are there to read an article about pasta recipes. Think about it, would you do that?

As you can see, writing articles is all about connecting with the reader and offering them exactly what they want. Something that a lot of article marketers don’t realize is that you can’t just throw a link to a dog training site at the end of an article about losing weight, it just doesn’t work. Trust me when I say this, article marketing is a skill that anybody can master as long as they put in the time and energy.

Tips To Creating Quality Niche Websites

Tips To Creating Quality Niche Websites

Did you know that one of the best ways to make money online is by creating a niche website? This is something that more and more people are getting into simply because they see how profitable they can be.

What I want to talk about with you today is how to create quality niche websites and give you tips on the process. The reason I want to do this right now is because I am tired of seeing so many people putting their time and money into something and doing it the wrong way. Trust me, about 70% of all niche websites are setup the wrong way and because of that they are not making that much money.

Before I get to the tips, I first want to tell you what you need to do in order to create a quality website. The very first thing you need to do is find some easy to rank for exact match domains. Once you do this you need to setup the site using WordPress and then make sure that your homepage is optimized for your main keyword. Once you have done this you need to write 4 more articles and place them as posts, this is done to help theme your site and make sure that there are some longer tail keywords coming to your site.

Now, in order to get you started I have done some of the work for you. Below you will find XX keywords and exact match domain names that you can get to start building a website from. All you need to do is go to Godaddy.com and purchase your domain name.

Tips To Create Quality Niche Websites

Write Quality Articles

The most important thing that you can do when creating niche websites is to write quality articles for it. Most people think that quality is not as important as backlinks and the amount of content that they have, but it really is. The better your content is and the more of it that you have, the better your website will look in the eyes of the search engines (especially Google).

Guru Tip: Get other people to write articles for you. Many gurus advise people to pay other writers to write articles for them because the more variety you have on your site (regarding style) will benefit your site.

Interlink All Articles

Something that many website owners forget to do is interlink all their articles to relevant pages. The best way to go about doing this is using a plugin that is called SEO Smart Links. The great thing about this particular plugin is that you can setup which words will link to which pages and then it does it for you automatically. Trust me, interlinking to all your articles is a great way to spread the link juice from one page to another.

Build Backlinks

Did you know that behind content, backlinks are one of the most important things a niche website can have? When you are starting to build backlinks to your niche website you need to do a few things to make it work effectively. The first thing you need to know is that you should never do profile links, blog comments or forum posts. What I would recommend doing is building links using guest posts and article marketing. The reason why I recommend building links using these methods is because the links will have relevant content around them which will help strengthen the backlinks.

Slowly Add Content

The last thing that you need to do is slowly add content as you see your site rise on the search engines. The most important thing you can do is slowly add the content because Google doesn’t like to see 10 new blog posts up on a site that has been inactive for weeks. Trust me, adding 1 new blog post every few days is more than enough to get your niche site to rank for your particular keywords as long as you are building backlinks.

As you can see, creating quality niche websites is not that difficult. If you want to create your very own niche website, then I highly recommend that you pick up one of the domain names above and start there. The nice thing is that I already did the hard part (keyword research) and now all you have to do is buy the site through Godaddy.com and get started.

Why Every Blogger Should Utilize Youtube

Why Every Blogger Should Utilize Youtube

How often do you watch videos on Youtube? If you are like most people, then you will watch at least 1 Youtube video each week.

Did you know that Youtube is the second largest search engine in the world, behind their parent company Google? This is what a lot of people don’t realize and the reason this is important is because when somebody does a search on Google the chances of a Youtube video popping up are much more likely. Think about it, why wouldn’t Google take advantage of this and send more traffic from their site to their second biggest site?

This is why every blogger should utilize Youtube.

Another reason why every blogger should utilize Youtube is because people love videos. One of the things that people hate doing is sitting in front of the computer reading a bunch of articles all the time. If it were up to you what would you rather do, would you rather watch a video of read an article?

My guess is that you would rather watch a Youtube video.

I am not saying that you need to abandon articles altogether but it would make a huge difference if you switched from pure content to articles and videos. The nice thing about mixing it up is that you will be able to offer things to both content lovers and video enthusiasts. As you probably already know, there are a lot of people that you need to cater to as a blog owner and that is why mixing things up will only help you, not harm you.

Why Youtube Videos Rock

Did you know that the reason people don’t like to read content is because they don’t like to take action? Reading involves taking time to actively look at the words and read them. This is where Youtube tops content. If you have a blog visitor that doesn’t really want to read the blog then they just click off the website, it is that simple.

Now with Youtube the visitor will have to stop the video and then click off of it. Being that there is more involved in reading an article, more and more people are starting to love videos more and more. I am not saying that content is dead, content is still the king of the internet but when accompanied by a video there is not holding you back.

One thing that I highly recommend to anybody that wants to take their blog to the next level is to include Youtube videos into their posts. If you don’t want to create your own videos, then you don’t have to, just embed one that is already online. Now I would suggest creating your own video but it is not a requirement.

As you can see, there are many benefits to utilizing Youtube on your blog and because of that I highly recommend it.

Bonus: Not only does Youtube give you the opportunity to get a bunch more traffic to your website, it will also pass link juice to your site as well and that is how you move up on the search engines quickly.

The Simple Ways To Building A Niche Website Empire!

The Simple Ways To Building A Niche Website Empire

If you are just starting out with Internet Marketing, there are tons of different ways of generating an online income. The problem most marketers have when first starting out is they try everything all at once for example PPC, PPV, and SEO.

There is no problem with running all those different types of advertising but it is way too hard! To be focused on all of those traffic sources can be very overwhelming and I know it because I started out that way.  I tried to make everything work but it never did. It was way too much on my plate. I would never be successful working on all of those traffic sources.

So about 2 and a half years ago I said enough is enough. I need to focus on one method of traffic generation and focus strictly on the traffic I am generating to my websites. So I picked SEO as my main focus of advertising and it still is not easy focusing on one topic versus trying to run PPC or PPV or various other traffic sources. You need to pick a traffic source and develop a system or blueprint that you can follow each and every day.

Once I started to grasp all the basics of SEO I started ranking websites very well and efficiently. I had developed my own system to ranking my websites. Things like learning to optimize Meta tags and Meta descriptions is pretty basic stuff once you know what you’re doing. If I were still working on all the traffic sources I would have never learned what I have come to learn today.

Backlinking was another piece of the SEO puzzle that I had grasped as well. I started learning that relevant backlinks where a major part of my online success. I am always seeing people add so much spam and crap to their website and I was always wondering why. I am always trying to build things for the long term instead of using any trickery that Google may catch onto.  I wanted to build a business that would last for years to come, not just a couple months.

Relevant backlinks give my websites a huge boost in rankings. Creating relevant backlinks makes Google reward me. I was ahead of the game. I was building a lot of quality backlinks that competitors didn’t have. I was beating my competitors by building better backlinks.

Some of the best places to get these links are blogs, forums, and Squidoo lenses. When building backlinks the highest authority backlink in Google’s eyes is an in content link. A backlink that is in the content of the page on the top fold. So when a searcher is reading the article they click your link which in turn gives you traffic and better ranking because Google thinks your website is something the searcher liked. So in return better rankings for you!

It is also always important to be diverse as well. You want to make sure when you build relevant backlinks that you are building all different kinds of links. You do not want to just have all blog comment backlinks because it doesn’t look natural. You want to stay under the radar by diversifying all of your backlinks. It is very important to do so that Google doesn’t think you are trying to game there system.

Once you fully optimize a website and build diversified backlinks to it how do I rank?! Well it takes time. You cannot build an online business over night. You need to build yourself up and keep growing. For example you cannot build 100 backlinks in 1 night. It will not look natural to the search engines. You cannot build links that are made industrial. For example you should build maybe 10 backlinks a day. You could build 15 backlinks a day. You always want to stay natural and under the radar. This will ensure that you keep things fresh for the search engines.

Once you start gaining momentum and ranking and you are hitting 50 visitors or more a day then it is time to add some affiliate offers or AdSense to monetize your website so we can start making money!

It is important that you do not add affiliate links to your website until you get 50+ visitors a day because it can be distracting. Checking stats all of the time is a huge time waster. You could be growing your online business bigger instead. So it is very important that you focus on traffic generation first. Chances are if you get less than 50 visitors a day you are not missing out on much money.

If you have no traffic you will have no money. That is why it is so important to focus on traffic generation first and foremost. You want to make sure you are adding value to your niche. Write good content that is unique and informational. You don’t want to give your readers a 100 word crappy article or your visitors will not like your website and most likely will never come back. You want to add value!

My Sure Fire Way To Gain More Traffic

My Sure Fire Way To Gain More Traffic

Whether you are trying to get traffic to a blog, affiliate link, signup page or just a social network page doesn’t matter, what matters is that you have a way to get traffic there when you need to. What most people don’t understand is there is no magic button that you can push to get more traffic, or is there?

Truth is that there is a way that you can gain more traffic whenever you want to and all you have to do is write a guest post. There are a lot of people out there that have never written a guest post and my guess is they are working a lot longer than they want to just to get the same results others are getting. If you want to gain more traffic to your website of choice, then you need to start writing guest posts. Trust me on this one, there are many benefits to writing guest posts and each and I am going to explain those benefits right now.

Benefits Of Guest Posts

Traffic

The first benefit that you will see is the traffic that comes directly from the guest post to your website. Another great thing about writing guest posts is that depending on how big the website is, you will get more or less traffic. A lot of people think that submitting guest posts to bigger websites is the only way to get more traffic but what you need to understand is that sometimes submitting guest posts to bigger websites will not get you as much traffic because the website will have more competition than smaller ones. Just know that small websites have just as big of a benefit as bigger websites do so make sure you think about this before you submit any articles.

Links

What do you do for link building? Are you stuck on blog commenting, article marketing and profile links? If this is all you are doing for link building, then guest posting will surely benefit you. What a lot of people like about guest posting is that they get a dofollow link with the anchor text of their choice. If you are trying to rank for a certain keyword, then you will find that guest posts are a great way to increase your search engine position without much effort.

Exposure

One other thing that you need to be aware of is the exposure that you will receive. The great thing about getting exposure is that it doesn’t matter what niche you are in, even the smallest amount of exposure in your niche will benefit you and your website. If you want to be seen as an expert in your field, then it is a must to get your name or brand out there and guest posts are a great way to do that.

What you need to understand is that these are not the only benefits to guest posts, there are many more. The reason why I only explained these three benefits of guest posts is because this should be more than enough to make you want to write them. Think about it, a guest post thrives because you are posting it on an already built blog which means that you can piggyback off the blog owners hard work.

Being that guest posting is something that more and more people are getting into, you need to start utilizing it today. I am not saying that you can’t gain more traffic without guest posts but the truth is that it will be a lot harder and takes a lot more time.

Answering the Question, “What Do You Do for a Living?”

When you make a living online, a lot of people won’t understand what it is you do.  Some of them will think you’re nothing more than a spammer – just because you work on the Internet.  You might even run into people who automatically assume you’re into promoting porn, because they think that’s all the Internet is used for!

You need to be prepared to deal with people like this.  Some of them may even be close friends and family members who are simply ignorant about the various marketing uses for the World Wide Web.

The first thing you need to explain to people is that very few people who work on the Internet are spammers.  Spammers actually make up a very, very small minority of those who make money online.

If you do any sort of email marketing, you should explain that every single person you send email to has signed up specifically to your newsletter, and clicked a link to confirm that they really want to be on your list.

Explain to them that subscribing to your newsletter is a lot like signing up for delivery of the newspaper, or a magazine subscription.  People sign up to your newsletter, and then you send them valuable information, not just advertising.

If you sell eBooks online, you can explain to people that you’re a bit like a book publisher, but all of the books you publish are in digital format.  You can tell them that instead of paying a lot of extra money for the printing, binding, marketing, and shipping of a physical book, you eliminate those costs by selling all of your books as downloadable products.

If people still don’t understand, you could even show them what an eBook is by letting them view one on your computer. If your main business is advertising affiliate products, you can tell people you’re in advertising.

Explain to them that you run a website (or websites) and you place advertising on that website.  Every time someone clicks an ad and purchases something, you receive a commission. If you make most of your money through AdSense or selling advertising on your sites, you can simply tell people that you place advertisements on your websites, and you charge advertisers for that ad space.

If you want to, you could show them some of your sites or blogs to illustrate the point. Some people feel more comfortable just telling people they design websites.  If you’re a decent website builder, this will probably really impress people, but be prepared to get requests from people asking if you’ll make them a site, too.

If you don’t want to deal with all of the questions about spamming and porn, just telling someone you design websites will usually be enough to throw them off your trail.  If people are particularly persistent with their questions, you can start to point out some examples of people who have been very successful making money online.

Don’t just use examples of famous Internet marketers like John Reese or Yanik Silver! Use some examples with verifiable “proof” in mainstream media.  For example, the famous “make money” blogger John Chow has a number of stories out there about him.

There’s also teenaged entrepreneur Ashley Squalls who has made mainstream news in a big way by making over $70,000 per month with advertising on her site that gives away MySpace layouts. And of course, the infamous Perez Hilton – a celebrity blogger who cashes in on the ad space his blog has.

You should try to realize that some people will just never understand what you do.  Try to explain it the best way you can, and if it doesn’t work, accept it.  Some people just won’t get it. If the in-laws or your spouse are nagging you because your money isn’t yet streaming in, and you feel pressured, put together a simple presentation that answers all of their questions and puts their minds at ease.

The Importance of Article Marketing in Your Promotions

Without marketing efforts, your online business will flop. You have to let the people know you’re online and what you’re all about. One way to easily and inexpensively market your business is by either writing articles or hiring someone to write them for you.

The purpose of these articles is that they can be used to promote your website through the use of backlinks in the articles. Plus, it’s smart strategy for search engine optimization. These articles act as fingers pointing the way to your site and driving traffic there.

Every marketer knows that the more traffic a website receives, the higher the likelihood that sales will also increase. You can’t sell your products if the population isn’t made aware of what you have to offer to them.

If you were to simplify article marketing, it could be defined as advertising. That’s what article marketing does for you. Advertises your business – but it does it a lot cheaper than traditional methods ever could.

Once the articles are written and edited, the next step is to submit them to article directories. Always make sure you use fresh content, because the same article with a few words switched around won’t pass some directories with stringent article approval rules.

When submitting to more than one directory, what happens for the website you’re promoting is that a larger net is cast into the sea of traffic than there would be if you didn’t promote this way.

People searching the Internet find your article, read the content (make it relevant and engaging), and they feel they’ve learned some important information that will help them so they follow the link to learn even more.

Different article directories will have different rules concerning backlinks. Some won’t allow them in the middle of an article and only want them in your signature while other directories don’t care where you put them.

Submitting articles to directories should be an ongoing process rather than a “submit and forget it.” The more well-received articles you submit, the more your reputation as an expert will grow and the higher you’ll rank in search engines.

When you write the articles (or have them written) you want to use a specific strategy. For example, if you’re writing about how to make money selling eBooks, you can write articles on the popularity of eBooks, why people buy them and the steps they can take to write their own.

You want to be careful that you give them enough information to make the reader interested and want to click on the link to head over to your site. If you write the articles in an informative way that gives value, then you’ll drive traffic to your site – but if you write it as a hard-hitting sales letter, you’ll end up pushing people away.

10 Tips for Increasing PageRank

10 Tips for Increasing PageRank

PageRank is the process or algorithm that measures the importance of any webpage residing on the World Wide Web. It’s named after Google’s Larry Page rather than “web page” as some believe and is in fact patented by the Stanford University and Not Google. (Google has the exclusive licensing rights which they paid for with 1.8 million shares).

We gripe about it, we love it, hate it, swear it means nothing to us, and yet continually find ourselves checking to see if it may or may not have changed since we last looked. Many swear it holds no value, and yet websites are continually measured by it, and will continue to be until that day when Google decides to pull the PR plug!

So for those of you who don’t care about PageRank, or feel it has no value, you can stop reading. (Why did you start in the first place?) For the rest of us who are interested in increasing it, and squeezing out the last bit of PR juice, read on.

Tip #1:

Treat link building as an ongoing process that needs to be fulfilled each and every day. If you are taking the time to write a blog post, and share it on the social networks (which are back links) then also spend a few minutes on your link building campaign. It’s easy to pay some link builder to build a thousand links to your site, but it’s much more effective to build ten a day over the long haul, and will go much further in the eyes of Google.

Tip #2

Utilize an internal linking system within your blog, or website. There are plugins available for WordPress that will automatically choose keywords that are important to you, and then hyperlink then to related pages within your site. Internal linking is important if you want to pass your PageRank throughout the inner pages of your blog.

Tip #3

Do your competitive research. This is something that should be done before starting a business, or launching a site (in my opinion), but gets overlooked in the excitement of the possibilities ahead. Take a look at the top ten sites in your niche, and see where they are getting their links from.  If they left a comment on a PR 6 article on Mashable, follow suit, if they wrote a guest post for a popular tech blog, get out your keyboard and start writing.

Chances are the top sites in your niche didn’t get to the number one spot by accident. You can capitalize on their hard work and start building up a similar link portfolio. When you’ve finished with one competitor move on to the next, it’s only a matter of time before you’ll occupy the number one spot for yourself!

Tip #4

Write content that people are going to be inclined to link to, “how to” articles, or diagrams and infographics tend to do very well. If you try and put out high quality link bait once each month, you’ll increase the amount of links that point to that article. You can leverage those articles by linking to sites within your network (see Tip #6) to take advantage of these highly linked articles to point back to important pages or sites within your network.

Tip #5

Comment often on other websites, but don’t leave things to chance. Rather than simply visiting your favorite site and leaving a comment on the newest post (which has zero PageRank at this time) scan the site first and locate its highest PR pages and leave comments on those pages instead.

Tip #6

Use your network! Most of us own more than one website; often we spend time and energy into increasing the various measurement aspects of each of those sites, including its PageRank. Make sure you are including links to your own sites from the rest of your network. If you have an inner page with a PR 4, or 5 use that page to link to yourself. Take advantage of

Tip #7

Quality over quantity! If you could build just one single high quality link each week, you’d notice a dramatic increase in your Page Rank in a very short time. Granted getting a PR 7 or 8 Backlink is difficult at times, the reward is well worth the effort.

For those of you who earn their living online, you most likely spend a fair bit of time “online”. Keep an eye out during your travels for opportunities to grab a link, either through a comment, setting up a profile, an exchange, or perhaps a guest post. Chances are you’re visiting several sites already that could benefit your own site, but are simply wandering past without noticing the missed opportunity.

Tip #8

Build backlinks to your backlinks! What I mean is we’ve all spent time building up web 2.0 properties that point to our main sites, but have you invested time in building links to those properties? If you’ve invested in Squidoo Lenses, or Hub Pages, then also spend some time building backlinks to those pages. Because many of those sites sit favorably already with Google it won’t be hard to increase the PR of your pages, and of course you’ve made sure to link to your own website from those pages right?

Tip #9

Stop giving link juice to pages that don’t need it. We’ve all got those Privacy policy pages, contact us, or Earnings disclaimers on our websites, but do you really care if those pages have PR? Use the NoFollow attribute on them and save your juice for pages that actually do matter to you. Pages that will increase traffic because a PR 4 will drive you higher in the SERPS and allow you to rank for the keywords you targeted on that particular page.

Tip #10

This one goes against previous tips in that it actually encourages linking out generously. Now while you can be stingy and limit the number of pages and websites you link to and keep every ounce of PageRank juice to yourself, chances are there won’t be too many other websites or bloggers who will be inclined to link to you. By being generous (but smart) with your linking activities you’ll encourage other webmasters to link to you which of course will increase the PageRank of your website.

It’s important to remember that link building is something that should be ongoing. It’s by consistent effort that we achieve most of what’s desirable, and that includes a high PageRank.
