For those of you reading this, I’m going to assume you already have a website or blog and are looking for a way to increase the number of visitors you receive to that site. Obviously the more traffic we can generate, the more potential sales we can enjoy. I’m constantly on the lookout for more efficient streams of traffic and love adding them to my inventory of traffic sources.
Today I’m going to talk about a very basic way that each one of you can get more traffic. In fact you can grow your traffic exponentially using this method, and it’s something that every single one of you can do.
I’m sure you’re familiar with the saying “content is king”, well there might be a reason so many people are claiming this to be true. Because it is! Content is what makes the internet go round and round, and it’s what keeps visitors coming back time, and time again.
Let’s say for instance you have 25 pages worth of articles that you’ve written on a topic that ties in with the theme of your blog, whatever that might be. Let’s also say that you’ve done a small amount of SEO, and back linked those articles to the point you are getting 1 visit per day per article. Now 25 visitors might not seem like much, but it’s something you can at least work with.
Br growing the content you have from twenty-five to fifty, you can effectively give yourself fifty landing pages for people to land on your site. Go one step further, and optimize those articles and build a few backlinks to them, and they’ll start to do well in the search engines resulting in even more traffic to your blog.
Using tools to do some keyword research prior to writing the articles is a more advanced trick you can use to zero in on articles that are going to have very little in the way of competition. By spending a bit of time researching topics, prior to writing them you can find areas that have been overlooked, or else haven’t been written about in a long time.
Increasing the number of pages you have on the internet is the easiest way to increase traffic. It also gives you something with which to promote.

How I drive traffic to my website
So, here is a list of things I’ve actually done to promote my site this month. If you implement them, I’m sure they will increase the amount of traffic you recieve, so sooner, some more long term.
Hope it helps.
1. Submit to directories:
I’ve probably submitted to about 100 directories ranging in page rank 0 to page rank 9. I’ve used to paid directories out of 100. Yahoo, and hotvsnot
Yahoo took about a week to approve me (cost is $299 with no guarantee’s) whereas hotvsnot which is a pr 6 took less than 24 hours to include my site.
Ps. If you’re doing this manually, get roboform you can thank me later! J
2. Article Marketing:
I’ve used dozens of article directories this month alone; of them all approval seemed to take between an hour to two weeks. Of them all Article Rich at http://www.articlerich.com approved my articles the quickest despite a warning saying it could take some time! Hit these guys up first if you’re in a hurry.
3. YouTube:
Ok, I didn’t know how to make a video (hey now, that’s not nice… I can hear you laughing) so had someone make a couple for me. Haven’t noticed much in the way of traffic so far, but I’m still hopeful. I know the purpose of the video is to drive traffic to my site, but hey, let’s reverse it. Go visit my video NOW…. (just kidding) now=please! Youtube channel
4. Social bookmarking:
Ok, I cheated and used a bookmarking service. Seriously, it would have taken me a week to try and do it manually. They charged me less than $100 bucks and submitted my site to over 500 social bookmarking sites. If you’re interested, here’s the link.

5. Social Media:
Facebook, Twitter, and Squidoo have been my main methods of Social Media sites I’ve been using. Here are a couple of ways I use them to drive extra traffic to my site. 1. Whenever I post on my blog, I update both Facebook, and Twitter to let my friends/followers know. 2. I’ve setup some auto posts using a handy little free website called hootsuite that allows me to schedule “tweets” to go out at predetermined dates and times. I find a good ratio to use is 3 to 1, so basically I’ll send out 3 tweets without including my (or any) link, and 1 that does. This way you don’t come across as spammy.

6. Blog Commenting:
This one I use sparingly, but whenever I’m visiting a blog and find an article particularly interesting or valuable, I’ll leave a comment for the author with a link to my website. I try to always use “Blog Commenting Etiquette” when posting. 1. Try to add something of value to the discussion. 2. Read the post before commenting (I know, common sense, but you’d be surprised how often this happens). 3. No one word comments (refer to rule number 1). 4. Don’t bold or italicize your entire comment.
Posting on Blogs in related niches is a great way to introduce yourself and your blog to likeminded readers.
7. Signature file:
Use a signature file in your emails as well as any forum’s you may post on. People are always curious, and may just click to see what your site is all about. Especially if it relates to something they are already interested in.
8. Make top ten lists like this one:
Some of the most popular posts that get the most traffic, are simple top ten lists related to your particular niche. Try to answer questions people are searching for answers for. Chances are if you’ve looked it up, they’ve looked it up!
9. Submit your Blog and RSS feed to directories:
If you do a Google search for RSS feed directories, you’ll find lists of RSS and Blog directories where you can submit your site/feed to. In about an hour you can probably submit to about 50 directories.
10. SEO your site:
Spend some time validating the html on your website, create a sitemap, make sure you have no broken links, and spend a little time optimizing your keywords. All these things will add up, and in the end you’ll start to notice Google sending you more and more traffic. If you can get on the first page of Google, you will definitely see an increase in traffic.
