Twitter has certainly become a force to be reckoned with, and chances are if you’re serious about blogging then you’ve already implemented some sort of Twitter strategy to maximize your exposure and capitalize on all those individuals currently interacting heavily.
I too have read the statistics on both Twitter and Facebook, but I can’t help but notice that when I log into my Analytics program I am still getting twice as much traffic from Twitter as I am from Facebook despite the fact that they have similar counts.
The key to maximizing any traffic source is to use the tools available to you in the most effective manner. With that in mind here are some of the tools I use daily to achieve the traffic returns I do.
TweetDeck
TweetDeck is a powerful twitter management tool that divides your twitter account into manageable sections where you can see at a glance just what is going on in your Twitter circle. You can easily interact with the rest of the people online effortlessly and track conversations that are important and relevant to you.
Tweetmeme
Tweetmeme is a WordPress plugin like the one to the right of this post that allows visitors to easily retweet content they enjoy, or think that their readers might benefit from. Over time, and with proper engagement and as your traffic starts to increase you’ll see the quantity of RT’s increase as well. There’s nothing more satisfying than checking in on a post you wrote in the morning and seeing it now has over 100 retweet!
Now this one is definitely my personal favourite by far. I’ve had this one for a little over a year and it’s paid for itself many times over. It is $147 to pick up, but well worth it. If you can’t afford it at that price shoot me an email, and I’ll make sure you get a deal on it! This one tool is responsible for the bulk of my Twitter traffic, and has also allowed me to build up a substantial following of over 26,000 followers.
If you are looking to grow your social network (Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube) then this site is a must. They basically provide a system that allows users to earn credits for either watching other user’s video’s, following them on Twitter, or liking their fan page, and in exchange you can then use those credits to attract fans to your pages. There is also the ability to purchase credits if you don’t have the time to invest, or perhaps don’t wish to follow anyone else.
This is a great way to measure your twitter growth over time, and by having something to benchmark it with it definitely lends itself toward becoming a little more competitive with yourself or other users. It also provides you with a great little widget that you can show on your blog and display the current number of followers you have. You can see mine to the right of my “Follow us on Twitter” graphic. If you then click on it, you’ll be taken to my stats page where you can see my growth as well as ranking in the Twitterverse!
This is a great tool for measuring the effectiveness of key performance metrics like true reach, audience engagement, and amplification probability. Basically you receive a score between 1 and 100, with the higher scores reflecting individuals with a larger sphere of influence on Twitter.
These are just a handful of tools that can help you to take both your Twitter account, as well as your blog to new levels. The more people you connect with personally, the more likely you are to see an increase in the level of traffic you receive from Twitter.
