Launching Your Own Affiliate Program

If you have your own product, launching an affiliate program is a necessity if you want to reach your full profit potential.  Even if you manage to control a massive 10% of your entire niche market on your own, that still leaves 90% of that niche’s traffic on the table.

By setting up an affiliate program, you can harness the power of having other people make money for you.  Instead of spending your time promoting your product, you can let other people do it for you while you spend your time forming JV partnerships, developing new product ideas, getting new products created, and taking care of other tasks to grow your business.

There are many ways to set up an affiliate program.  Which one you choose will probably depend on what type of product you’re selling, and where you’re located in the world.  A lot of people purchase affiliate scripts that allow them to run their own affiliate program through PayPal.

But PayPal doesn’t allow users from many countries, and if you live in one of those countries, you’ll have to find a different solution. If you’re selling physical products like shoes or books, you might go through Commission Junction.

Located at www.cj.com, Commission Junction is one of the largest affiliate systems in the world.  They may be a little complex to set up, and they have certain rules you’ll have to comply with, but they have a huge database of affiliates ready and waiting to promote your products.

If you’re selling digital products like software or eBooks, you might want to go through ClickBank.  ClickBank is the world’s largest seller of eBooks and other digital products.  They make it extremely easy to run an affiliate program, and they take care of almost everything for you.

They handle the billing for you, they handle customer refund requests, and they can even handle some of your customer service questions.  They’ll even pay your affiliates for you.  ClickBank does take a percentage of your sales, so if you’re paying your affiliates a 50% commission, you’ll be making quite a bit less than 50% yourself, because of ClickBank’s fees.

They also charge $49 up front to approve your product before you’re allowed to sell through them.  But you’ll have fees with any billing solution.  After all, they have to make money somehow.

An alternative to ClickBank is PayDotCom.  PayDotCom is very similar to ClickBank, but with a few differences.  With PayDotCom, you currently don’t have to pay an upfront fee to sell a single product through them.

The money also goes to your PayPal account, which can be another big benefit.  But for people without PayPal accounts, PayDotCom isn’t going to work.  You need a PayPal account to be paid, and you’ll also have to pay your affiliates out of your PayPal account, as well.

Another easy solution for selling digital products is e-Junkie.  E-Junkie has an affiliate program built in, and they also host your product downloads.  They’re very inexpensive to use, charging a monthly fee rather than high percentages.

But not as many affiliates promote products through e-Junkie as through ClickBank or PayDotCom. Running your affiliate program can be very simple with a hosted solution.  You might be tempted to use a script you host yourself, but it’s probably better to leave it to the pros.

Don’t forget to create an affiliate toolbox, too! In order for your affiliate force to make sales, they’ll need readymade marketing materials such as banners, buttons, eCovers, emails, and articles they can use.

Breaking the Copywriting Code to Improve Sales

copywriting

There are a handful of simple changes you can make to improve your sales – and one of those changes is the way you present your written content. Believe it or not, there is a formula that copywriters use to convince people to buy products and you can use that same formula on your own website.

The first step you want to do with any sales copy is make sure that you present the problem. Without a problem, people have no need to buy or take any kind of action at all. Presenting people with a problems is the same as letting them know they need to (and can with your help) take the necessary action to resolve whatever the problem is.

So first, you tell them what’s wrong – but you do it from the, “Hey – I’ve been there too” point of view. Never talk down to potential customers (you’re in debt? While I would never let myself get into debt, here’s how you can get out of it).

You have to show them that you understand, that you’ve walked the same road and can feel their pain. Establishing a common bond builds trust. Next, you want to show them how they can have a solution for their problem and you present that solution.

One of the biggest mistakes most people make when presenting sales copy or any other type of content is they fail to break it down into bite sized chunks. When words are written together in long paragraph form without breaks, readers tend to skim rather than read the content if they read it at all.

To get your point across, write your copy in a style that flows easily. Start with clean, crisp headlines followed by your storyline and then begin to break it up into sub-headlines.

Use bullet points in your copy. Bullet points serve an important purpose – they take long paragraphs and put them in an easier to read format. They immediately draw the focus of the reader and you can point out important details within bullet points.

You also want to write your call to action in a way that moves people to act. Sometimes using the same old phrases (Buy now! or Order here!) can backfire. People tend to turn a blind eye to words they’ve seen a thousand times.

Remember the customer’s problem? Here’s where understanding what the problem is can work as a call to action. For example, if you were selling products that successfully treated acne, instead of having a Buy Now call to action, you could use, “Yes! I want to fight my acne starting today!”

You want to think about your call to action and put yourself into the customer’s shoes. How is the problem hurting their life? What emotions are they battling because of it? Embarrassment? Social anxiety?

Don’t forget to use a PS and PPS in your copy. Why? Some people skip the sales copy and head straight to the price point and postscripts to see what the page is summed up about. You can also use these to show what the customer might risk if he doesn’t take advantage of your offer.

Banner Advertising

banner advertising

The key to owning and running a high traffic and profitable blog or website is targeted traffic, which as you know can be one of the most challenging obstacles you face with your site. I’m going to talk about one of the methods that I use, and that works to promote your blog, website, or product, and helps drive sales and traffic.

It’s definitely a worthwhile investment to build yourself a complete set of banners for your website or product so that you can include them on other sites to promote yourself, and entice new visitors who may not have found you otherwise, to stop in for a visit and see what you’re all about.

Banner sets can be either animated or static where they don’t flash or move, and it’s entirely up to you and your preferences. If you’re trying to capture someone’s attention, perhaps the animated version might be a better fit. Ultimately you’d probably like to try both for a set period to see which performs best, and then you can roll out the better performer to the web.

A graphic designer will charge anywhere from a bargain basement price of five dollars (outsourcing to India) per banner to as much as fifty to a hundred dollars per, depending on the artist. Generally you can expect to pay between fifteen and twenty-five dollars per banner.

It really does take both a marketers perspective and a graphic designer’s talent to put together a winning design with just the right amount of information contained within the banner’s limits as far as text area is concerned. A great design vs. a poor one could be the difference between a 0.1% CTR and a 1.0% CTR, typically banners are used more for a branding tool to build awareness of your website or product, but a well-designed banner can bring you both customers, and sales.

I realize that you only have room for a small handful of words depending on your banner size, and style, but you’re going to want to invest some time in this step, and treat it as you would any other sales copy. Because at the end of the day, that’s exactly what this is, it’s sales copy that will be used to get interested people to click through to your website or product site. You have to try to give a clear impression what the result will be and just what promises you’re making in a very short space!

Here is a list of the most common sizes for banners, but they can literally be made to fit just about anywhere!

Banner Sizes

Ok, you’ve settled on the designer, you know just what copy you’re going to use for your banners, and what sizes you’ll be going with. Now it’s time to find homes for all these wonderful little pieces of ad media. It’s important to target sites that have the audience that you’re product or website will resonate with, in order to be placing them into a receptive audience. If you are selling the hottest new baby monitor and it’s half the price of the competition, you’re going to want that in front of new mothers rather than group of Ferrari enthusiasts. Do your homework, and find out where your audience is spending their online hours so that you can get yourself in front of them.

Don’t just choose site A over site B because they’re cheaper, actually spend some time on researching the two sites, to see how large their reach is, where that audience is coming from.  If the group on site A is twice the size of site B, but they are coming from over in Europe it might not be so beneficial to put your product in front of that larger audience once you factor in the shipping costs, and the fact that they have different electrical outlets.

Banner advertising is only one more aspect to your business, but it’s one that should be given time and attention if you want it to succeed.

Harnessing the Power of Affiliates

Affiliate Marketing

If you’ve got a product that your selling online, perhaps have even signed up to Clickbank, and are promoting it with them, one of the things that can take your product sales to the next level are affiliates.
Affiliate marketing, is a great source of income and I personally love promoting other people’s products.
It’s a win/win situation for both parties. I as the affiliate am able to pick and choose the highest quality, and most relevant products to my readers and subscribers, and am able to offer a much wider variety of products and services than if I were to only promote my own work.

The vendor gets the benefit of being able to have multiple affiliates promoting his product, or service to their audience and is able to reach a much greater number of potential customers this way. For example, Mike Smith builds a great piece of software because he’s a programmer. He may not be much of a website designer, so he then has to outsource his website. Then, he also needs to promote it and do the SEO work in order to get visitors so they can then see his amazing product in order for him to make sales.

A great thing for Mike is the fact that there are people out there who already have websites, readers, etc. but who maybe aren’t the programming genius that Mike is. These people lack a product to sell, so they team up with Mike, and promote his piece of software to their audience for a percentage. Due to the nature of many products online, and them being of a digital nature, the cost of reproducing, and sending is next to nothing, typically the cost is only the bandwidth used to email the product and perhaps the support that comes afterward.

Even if Mike manages to build up his website to the point where he’s getting 1000 visitors a day, it still can’t compete with 100 affiliates who maybe only get a couple of hundred a day. Another thing to consider is many full time internet marketers, and affiliate marketers, have spent their time and energy building up an email list of subscribers who they email out to on a regular basis, expanding his reach even further! 100 affiliates with even just three hundred subscribers (and this number would be much higher, I typically get  between 10 and 20 subscribers each day, and know many who get ten times that) would be an extra 30,000 potential customers that Mike couldn’t have reached using only his own resources.

Here’s a list of a few things that will make your product or service more attractive to potential affiliates, as well as more profitable for the both of you.

-          Have attractive banner’s made up to promote your product, or service and make sure to include several sizes so that you fit into most people’s marketing plans and websites. A few of the most popular sizes that I would include would be 125×125, 120×60, 468×60, 728×90 and 300×250

We personally design 5 set banners for $60.00 (Services Page)

-          Provide graphic sets, or eBook covers for the affiliates to use on their sites. I charge $50.00 a month for a 125×125 banner spot, but often include products I’m promoting because I’m making more than that in sales for that particular product. (Could you afford to place 100 banners at $50.00 a pop?) The advertising power alone would make it worth your while.

-          Have Pre-written ads made up for PPC campaigns so that the affiliates can just plug them in and go.

-          Have your keyword data available so that they can use it to promote their PPC campaigns

-          Have three or four copies of email sales copy that the affiliate can send out to his list. This way, you can be sure of getting your message out exactly the way you intended as well as making it easier for your affiliates to promote you. It takes 2 minutes for me to copy/paste your email, and send it out to my list. (Which I may never do on my own, if you didn’t provide it)

-          Sales videos are another great tool that you can offer to your affiliates.

-          Articles written in the form of a review for your product, or simply stating the benefits to your potential market, that they can post or market for you.

-          Affiliate tracking software, you want to make sure your tracking clicks and sales that your affiliates make on your behalf accurately. If I notice that my traffic isn’t converting properly or as expected or clicks that I’m sending to you aren’t showing up in my reports, I’m not going to be promoting for you for very long. It’s also important to pay your affiliates on time and regularly. Offer up several methods if you can. PayPal is my preferred method, but do receive checks from others, and that is just fine too. Just be as flexible as you can, in order to appeal to as many affiliates as possible!

If you’ve been in business for any length of time at all, you realize the power of leverage. There are always only going to be 24 hours in your day! Isn’t it time you started to harness the power of many?

How to Write Good Sales Copy – Revolutionize Your Online Business!

Sales Copy For Internet MarketingWhen it comes to running an effective website for a business, good sales copy is one of the most important aspects of internet marketing. Good sales copy will pique their interest in your product and persuade them to find out more about whatever it is you’re selling. If you want to make money online, you can’t do it without writing good sales copy. Fortunately, it’s not as difficult to do as you might think. The first step is easy: you need to grab the reader’s attention with a unique headline. The more dynamic your title, the more likely people are to be curious enough to click on it, if only to see if you can back up what your headline promises.

The next step to effective sales copy for internet marketing is to reel in the truly curious by giving them just enough information to whet their appetites for more. You don’t want to give away all of your secrets in this step. You just want to write enough to intrigue them. Tell them that your product or service will help them, but don’t explain how. In order to get that information, they’ll need to stick around for the next step, and you can’t make money online if you give away all of your secrets for free.

You then want to give them a few details about your product. Once again, because you want to make money online, you want to give them only the details that you can afford to give away for free. Give them an outline of how your product or service works and why they need it. Tell them about all of the benefits of your product or service. And, if appropriate, offer them a free trial or some other low-risk opportunity to give your product or service a test drive. Good internet marketing often involves offering irresistible deals.

Finally, after you’ve laid everything you’ve got out on the table, call them to action. You’ve shown your hand, and it’s now their turn to act. Good sales copy will be able to persuade them to do just that, and to do it quickly. If you can write persuasive sales copy, your internet marketing strategies will be that much more effective. And if you’re still reticent about writing it yourself, there are plenty of resources available for you to hire a writer or even purchase a pre-written script that you can alter to fit your needs. If you want to make money online, this is a must for you.

Where to Find Good Sales Copy – It’s Closer Than You Think

Sales CopyThere was a time when advertising was done primarily through advertisements. Whether in magazines or newspapers or even on television, this was the primary way in which people discovered new products or services. But that era is quickly fading and internet marketing is quickly becoming the most popular way to advertise one’s business. It’s cost-effective and easy to maintain. But in a world in which anyone can have a website and many of them look the same, having effective sales copy can be the determining factor in whether or not a customer chooses to use your business. Fortunately, there are several sources for good sales copy.

The first resource you want to use is the internet. You can do a web search for “copywriter” or “freelance writer,” and the search will yield hundreds of thousands of results for you. You can start contacting people and asking for résumés, and have a writer hired for your internet marketing needs in no time. You can also post a want ad on a message board or employment website that is geared towards the freelance writing community. With so many writers struggling to find work, you’re sure to find someone who can write great sales copy for you at a reasonable price.

Another way you can find good sales copy is through your competition. Look through other companies’ websites. If you see any sales copy that really catches your eye, you can contact the company’s internet marketing department and ask for the name of the writer. If the writer is a freelancer, then you can hire him or her to write some great copy for you, too. Besides that, you can also get a good feel for what kind of writing style sells better by looking at the advertising style of your competitors’ websites.

The last resource for good sales copy is closer than you might think. With some basic training and a bit of practice, you could be your own best resource. If you’re already running your own website, then you should know enough about internet marketing to understand what sells. Try your hand at writing your own sales copy and you’re sure to find that it’s not as difficult as you initially though. And the more you do it, the better you’ll get at it. So whether you decide to hire a freelancer or just do it on your own, your business will surely benefit from good sales copy.

How to Get the Most Out of PLR – Get More Than Your Money’s Worth

mouse and dollar signIf you are involved in any sort of affiliate marketing, then you are probably familiar with the concept of private label rights, or PLR. If you’re not, you should become familiar with the concept as soon as possible. Private label rights are one of the most efficient tools for internet marketing in particular, as it provides you with solid sales copy with a minimum of effort. This sort of sales copy has already been proven successful in other venues, so there’s no reason that it shouldn’t be successful for you as well. If you handle it right, a single article or eBook can go a long way for you.

When it comes to PLR, don’t be afraid to repackage. Just because the item came to you in a certain format, such as an article or an eBook, doesn’t mean that you can’t turn it into a series of blog posts or even a video slideshow set to music for a multimedia experience. You can reformat the material in whatever reincarnations you can think of. And don’t be shy about rewriting certain parts, too, and keeping each project unique. If you’re working in affiliate marketing, you can get a lot of mileage out of one article.

But while you should feel free to edit as you please, remember that it’s really not worth your while to spend too much time revising material. The reason you bought PLR in the first place is probably so that you didn’t have to go to the trouble of writing the material yourself. While a little editing can go a long way with an article or eBook, if you’re spending more time editing the material than the original writer spent on creating it in the first place, then you’d be better of writing it from scratch on your own. If you’re in the affiliate business, your main priority should be on recruiting new affiliates, not on rewriting sales copy.

And, finally, don’t be afraid of multimedia. People living in the age of information know that reading isn’t their only option for learning about new opportunities. Some of the most popular affiliate networks now do the majority of their recruiting with video e-courses instead of the traditional information sessions or booklets. The beauty of PLR is that you can repackage it in any format you choose. The only limit is your imagination. So get the best out of your material and don’t be afraid to get creative.
