Get More RSS Subscribers Fast

Get More RSS Subscribers Fast

How would you like to be the proud owner of a RSS feed with tens of thousands of people subscribed to it? Most bloggers would die for a following like this and for good reason too. Studies show that RSS subscribers are more valuable than Twitter and Facebook subscribers and that is why I want to show you how to get more RSS subscribers fast.

As a blogger you are probably aware of some of the bigger names in blogging such as Problogger (161,000), John Chow (145,000), Jonathan Volk (64330) but what you probably didn’t know is that they didn’t get their RSS subscribers overnight. All 3 of these guys had to work to get every person on their RSS count and below are some of the things that each one of them did.

If you are ready to increase your RSS subscriber count, then keep reading and see what changes you can make to make this happen. Trust me, it will take some time to establish a huge RSS following but once it is there you can market to them over and over again.

How To Get More RSS Subscribers

Bigger Is Better

When it comes to your RSS feed button you need to use the bigger button possible. This is where you are probably going wrong because you probably only have a small button on the side of your blog. What I recommend is that you get a button that is around 200X200 because then it will be seen. Not only does a bigger button help you get more RSS subscribers, it will blend in well with most other banner ads that people create. If you use a 200X200 Adsense ad at the end of your blog post, then simply add your RSS button to the side of that and it will blend in very nicely.

Above The Fold Is Best

Whenever you want a high click through rate whether it is with an ad or a RSS button, you need to place it above the fold. Studies show that items above the fold will get clicked on roughly 70% more than things below it. If getting more RSS subscribers is your goal, then I don’t see why you would not want the button above the fold so that it gets the most exposure.

Ask For Subscribers

Did you know that simply asking for something is the best way to get it done? If you want more subscribers, then simply ask your readers to subscribe to your RSS feed. Now, you can’t just ask and not give them a reason. What I recommend is that you make it knows that readers don’t have to come directly to your website, they can simply go to their email account and read the posts there. This is a huge advantage to many professionals and I know that without this feature I would not be subscribed to as many RSS feeds as a currently am.

Write A Guest Post

Getting more subscribers is great but getting subscribers from other bloggers is even better. You probably already know about guest posts and how powerful they are but did you know that adding a link on a guest post directly to your RSS feed is very effective. If you can write a great post and offer the reader a lot, then it will be easy to convert that reader into a subscriber. My only recommendation is that you keep up with guest posts so that you always have more subscribers coming in.

Do you see where you are going wrong? A lot of people think that an RSS feed is not important but I can assure you that if you use an RSS feed, a Twitter account, a Facebook page and your actual blog that you will be able to grow your blog faster than ever before. All I am asking is that you do yourself a favor and make some changes to your blog so that you get the subscribers that you need.

Getting Indexed Fast in Google

A lot of people seem to think it takes weeks (or even months) to get indexed in Google, but that’s just not true.  Almost anyone can get his or her site crawled and indexed in two weeks or less – sometimes you can even be listed in the Google index in as little as a few hours!

There are several ways to get indexed quickly.  All of them involve getting links to your site on other sites that have high PageRank, or sites that are updated often and get crawled frequently by search engine spiders.

You don’t have to pay to do this.  There are plenty of ways to get these types of links to your site without paying a penny. One of the easiest ways to get indexed quickly is to ping your site.  You don’t have to own a blog to ping your site at places like pingoat.com or Pingomatic.com.

Just add your site’s name and URL, and leave the RSS feed link blank.  (It’s not necessary.)  Sometimes this technique alone can get you indexed in a day or two. Next, you should submit your link to various social bookmarking sites.

These sites get crawled several times a day, so they can be a very good way to get your own site crawled and indexed quickly.  You should get an account at all of the major bookmarking sites.  Don’t miss StumbleUpon, Digg, Furl, del.ico.us, and Slashdot.

Press releases can be very helpful in getting your site crawled and indexed quickly.  Most of the more popular press release sites have good PageRank, get crawled often, and can even get your press release posted on a number of different sites that borrow news from the PR directories.  Sometimes it can be worth submitting a press release simply for the ease and speed of being indexed.

Article marketing is another way to get indexed fast.  Submitting an article or two can also help you get backlinks, better PageRank, and targeted traffic to your site.  A lot of article directories have very good PageRank, so it definitely has benefits other than just quick indexing.

Blog commenting can be a very good way to get indexed quickly.  You’ll need to find blogs that don’t have the “nofollow” tag, because blogs that have “nofollow” won’t let search engines crawl the links anyway.

This is debated by SEO experts – some saying the “nofollow” tag doesn’t even matter, since some search engine spiders ignore them anyway. Others claim you might get a small amount of traffic from the blogs themselves, but “nofollow” blogs will do nothing to help you get indexed faster.

You should also make sure you do all you can to maximize the ability of spiders to crawl your site.  You should have links that are easy to find and follow, use text links instead of only image links, don’t use Flash or image maps unless you also have text links for spiders to follow, and make sure you keep your site as clean as possible.  Having too many links on your main page can confuse spiders, and your site may not be indexed properly.

Forums often get crawled on a regular (daily) rotation since the content is updated often.  Popular forums have had posts on their site show up on Google just minutes after they’re posted!  It’s very common for posts on very popular forums to be in Google in under 24 hours.  Posting a small link in your signature on some of these forums can help you get your site indexed quickly.

Finally, you can exchange links with other webmasters in your niche.  Not only is this a great way to build backlinks, but if their sites get crawled often, you’ll be adding to the chance that your site will be crawled and indexed quickly, too.  Link exchanges won’t penalize your site, either – unless you amass too many, too soon – so stick with organic growth (a few a day) and it won’t put up any red flags for the search engines.

Success Series Goal – Subscribers

Subscribers

Part of a blogs success can be measured by the number of subscribers it has, and since most marketers tend to focus a lot on the numbers (and I’m no different) showing a subscriber count in the thousands is not only visually rewarding, but can also lend itself to a higher earning bracket for your website, and the traffic benefits can be astounding when you consider that people who subscribe are most certainly interested in the topic you cover.

In my first year the blog grew by about 1200 subscribers and since it really wasn’t something I was focusing on with any sort of intensity I’m happy with those results. This second year is another story all together though, and my expectations are much higher.

I tend to use leaders in the industry to compare myself to (which when you are first starting out isn’t probably the smartest thing to do) and since people like John Chow, or Problogger have anywhere from 100,000 to close to 200,000 subscribers after years of work and publishing great content I certainly have my work cut out for me.

I’d like to try and quadruple my subscribers in this my second year, and if I can end up with close to 5,000 by March I’ll consider myself successful in regards to this particular goal. I realize it will likely take several years of hard work to catch up to the likes of Darren or John, but I don’t intend to give up so I’ll get there!

Here are a few tips for growing your subscribers count on your own blog:

1.       Offer your visitors something of value in exchange for subscribing.

2.       Make sure you are publishing content your readers will find interesting.

3.       Write in your own style, or “voice”, don’t be afraid to be unique.

4.       Make it easy for them to subscribe, if they can’t see anywhere to do it, they likely won’t.

5.       Use a large and prominent RSS button.

6.       Write a post asking them to.

7.       Post frequently and consistently.

8.       Spend a minute to choose the best possible title for your post.

9.       Submit your feed to RSS directories.

10.   Increase your site’s traffic, if you double your traffic, you’ll likely double your subscriptions as well.

And that is my success series goal number 6. Stay tuned for all 31 issues of my success series goals, and at the end you’ll see the 32nd recent addition that I’ve since added to them. Perhaps you can offer up some suggestions on it, when I post it and you can help shape the future of this blog!

Make it easy for People to Share your content

share

You go to a lot of effort to research and then type up a post articles for your blog so I’m sure you’d like to receive that maximum amount of visitors to that post as humanly possible right? Sharing that knowledge is what makes our blogging world go round, and round.

I’m still very surprised when I see blogs with no sharing, or social buttons anywhere near those posts they spent so much time on. It’s probably no wonder that their Alexa rank is way up in the millions either.

Take a look at some of the highest traffic sites and you’ll soon spot the Facebook “like” button, or the Twitter Retweet button. In some cases like Hubspot you’ll notice a Linkedin “Share” button as well those readers there are putting to good use, and which ultimately sends them even more traffic through each reader who stops by and finds value in their posts.

Heading over to the Huffington Post which as I’m sure most of you know was recently sold to AOL for 315 Million dollars, and you have very little trouble figuring out where the goals and priorities lie. There are no less than 14 opportunities to “like the articles on a page” as well as other social networking opportunities such as RSS and email subscriptions.

Social media is growing at an astounding rate, and should be every business and blog owners concern if they’re serious about being in business. There is very little return on your outbound marketing efforts, and the day of interrupting people at dinner or spamming their inbox in the hopes of either making a sale, or at the very least driving some traffic to your site is fading fast, if not already gone.

I’ll be the first person to say that social bookmarking sites like Digg, or Stumbleupon don’t really provide much in the way of quality traffic to most blogs and yet they do seem to find their way into our analytics reports driving hundreds, or thousands of visitors to our sites every month. If you’re looking at increasing the level of traffic to your blog and haven’t been taking advantage of these networks, perhaps now is the time to start.

You’ve already invested time into sharing something with your readers that ultimately is of use or benefit to them, so you’ve already instilled a certain sense of giving freely. Take advantage of the reciprocity that most people will likely feel, and go ahead and ask for that “share”!

Driving Traffic to your blog

Blog Traffic

Whether you write simply for pleasure of having your words read by appreciating people, or to attract people to a cause you promote, or because you earn part or all of your living from your website, one thing you need is always going to be traffic. Traffic is the life blood of any online business, and preferably the kind of traffic that converts.

There are dozens of ways you can go about attracting people to your website or blog, and it should be seen as more of an ongoing process than a “do it once and forget it” type of deal. By developing a continuing strategy geared toward building your traffic levels, then you’ll see consistent growth and once you reach a certain level it will even gain a sort of “critical mass” that helps perpetuate itself.

There are four main sources of traffic that you should be focusing 90% of your efforts on in order to maximize the return on your time investment. Those four are:

1.       Referring Traffic Sources such as you’d get through guest posting, article marketing, blog commenting on popular blogs, links from popular blogs etc.

2.       Search Engine Traffic consists of 60% of all my traffic and I manage to keep it there by applying a consistent SEO strategy which also ties in with my traffic driving strategies, obviously SEO traffic is highly targeted so it converts quite well for me.

3.       Social Network sites Like Twitter, and Facebook should also be part of your traffic generating efforts, and while there are a ton of them out there, I focus on these two, however if you’ve already established a presence in another network then I’d say develop it, and cultivate it.

4.       Feedburner is one you can’t afford to ignore, having a large RSS count isn’t just for looks, and it also serves up your content to a highly targeted, highly interested group of subscribers. Invest some time into increasing the number of subscribers your blog has, and over time as this number grows, so will your traffic.

5.       I know I said four, but this is a bonus method that very few people are utilizing. Affiliate traffic! Affiliates will always be able to send more traffic than you could ever hope to see left to your own methods. It’s a simple matter of math, if you have 1 person working on sending traffic to a site vs. 100 people working on the same task… well the 100 affiliates will most likely win out. By having a product that can be promoted by affiliates you can start recruiting them to your cause in exchange for a portion of the sales proceeds, typically the higher the percentage, the more affiliates you’ll be able to attract, but there are other things you can do to attract them as well. See harnessing the power of affiliates.

Developing traffic isn’t hard; it just takes a consistent application of effort toward a few key sources in order for it to be successful. If you’d like a more in depth look at how you can grow your traffic, and see the actual techniques I used to grow this blogs traffic by well over 1500% Here is a 27% discount page for my popular 78 page e-book “Blog Traffic Tactics” that walks you through traffic generating methods that will have your sites traffic rising steadily in no time!

10 Tips for Getting More RSS Subscribers

increase your RSS Subscribers

My RSS is now fixed and offering a full feed to readers, being new to RSS I struggled with it for a week trying to get everything set up correctly, but didn’t realize that it wasn’t as easy as one might think.
For those looking to offer a full feed, I’ve included directions at the bottom of this post.

I’ve done some research into gaining more subscribers and thought I’d list them out for my readers in the hopes that it might benefit you as well. Feel free to implement as many as you like into your own site and start growing your subscribers today!

1.       Include an invitation to subscribe to your feed, remind people about the fact that you have one, and why they should subscribe to yours.

2.       Include an RSS button that is easy to spot, and preferably in the top half of your page so that it can be seen without scrolling.

3.       Offer a full feed vs. a partial feed (details on how if you’re having problems below)

4.       Be consistent with your topic, if your blog is about dog training, don’t switch and start writing about making money online, or something totally unrelated.

5.       Post frequently, and try and be consistent with your schedule, if you post daily, try to stick with that schedule, it lets your readers know what to expect, and when.

6.       Write quality content, this one goes without saying, but if you want more subscribers, you need to be producing unique, quality posts.

7.       Spend at least a couple of minutes choosing the best possible headline, like they say “Headlines sell newspapers”, well the same goes for blog posts.

8.       Offer your readers something of value for opting in. A free report, or eBook, perhaps and course.

9.       Submit your feed to the many RSS directories that can be found on the net.

10.   Increase the traffic your site receives, if you getting 10 subscribers a day, then odds are that if you can double your current level of traffic, you can effectively double your subscribers as well.

RSS hasn’t been something that I’ve really spent much time on, and I haven’t developed it like I probably should have. I’m making a conscious attempt to increase my subscriber count going forward. I’m planning to implement these as well as other ideas I might stumble on, and we’ll see how it turns out

For those unsure how to offer a full feed:

If you’re running wordpress, log into your panel, and click on the tab labeled “Readers”, and make sure you have full feed selected in there.
Then head over to Feedburner, and under “Edit feed details” you’re going to want to change the address of your feed to reflect RSS 2.0 and you do this by simply adding a 2 at the end of your feed URL

http://www.plrinternetmarketing.com/feed/rss/ (Partial RSS Feed)
http://www.plrinternetmarketing.com/feed/rss2/ (Full RSS Feed)

Who knew that little number two could cause so many problems!  Hope this helps get your feed up and running for you.

Attracting Advertisers to your Blog

Advertising on your blog

Blogging is a great outlet for expression of thoughts and ideas, but for many of you reading my blog, you’d like to take it to the next level and actually earn some money with your blog. Some of you will simply be looking for a couple of hundred extra dollars a month to pay server and other online costs, while still others will be looking to make thousands a month doing something that they love and are passionate about.

For the first group, you can probably make enough money without selling advertising space on your blog, but for the second, it’s an income stream that shouldn’t be overlooked. If you look at some of the top earning blogs like Lifehacker, Techcrunch, and Mashable, you’ll notice that their major source of income is coming from banner advertising. These sites are making millions of dollars each and every year; let’s pretend they know what they’re doing, because I think they just might!

Sure these sites are at the top of the food chain, but you can learn a lot from these guys that will help you to earn with your own site. One thing you’ll notice if you visit any of these sites is they all have a prominent advertising page complete with statistics on how much traffic they each receive, awards won, prices and commitment, and all the info needed for potential advertisers to make an informed decision about whether or not they want (or can) advertising space on their sites.

Once your blog hits a certain level of traffic, you’ll start getting requests for advertising and if you don’t wish to be answering the same questions over and over, you might want to set up an advertising page on your blog to answer some of the most common questions that advertisers might have.

It’s a good idea to give statistics like unique visitors a month and how many page views your site receives and where you’re getting your traffic data from. Most advertisers will prefer it is coming from Google Analytics because it is much more accurate than some others like Awstats, or other built in stat programs your server might have. Don’t be afraid to mention any awards you’ve won or been recognized in the past for, or any other items of interest to prospective advertisers.

Listing acceptable types of media is also important, list the banner sizes that are available and there locations within your site, are they site wide, on the homepage? You get the idea; also if you don’t want certain types of banners, you might want to mention that also.

Some people prefer to put the price right on the advertising page, while others prefer to keep it private. I would rather have them know up front what is required of them financially so they can make an informed decision based on the information provided.

Here are some stats that a potential advertiser might be interested in looking at, you can decide which to implement into your site:

-          Unique visitors you get each month and which source this information was pulled from.

-          Page views you receive each month.

-          Page Rank might be something to mention

-          Alexa ranking

-          Technorati score

-          Awards your blog has won

-          Honorable mentions regarding your blog

-          Number of RSS subscribers

-          Number of Twitter followers if this is a strength

-          Number of fans of Facebook (lends itself to social proof)

-          Prices for each banner as well as the locations and sizes.

-          Average number of comments if that is a strength

-          Average number of Retweets your site receives.

-          Any addition bonuses that might be included

-          Tell them why they should advertise with you; make it as easy as possible.

-          How to order.

-          And anything else that you think might be relevant or lend itself to more sales.

I won’t go into when is the proper time to advertise on your blog, because that is another discussion in and of itself, and tends to be a controversial one. Suffice to say, I believe that if it is your intention to make money with your blog, and you’re going to implement ads into it sooner or later, then you might as well get your reader used to seeing them there rather than pop them in after you’ve built up a loyal base of readers. (People generally don’t like change)

My site had ads right from the beginning and they started making money right from the beginning which allows me to write the posts I write, do the research, put out products and eBooks related to my topic, all of which is made possible by the money that this site makes.

My readers know that the right side contains navigation, widgets, and advertising space, and the left side contains the articles, I’ve separated the two as much as possible because I want to provide the best possible experience for my visitors, but at the same time, if my readers are in the market for an internet marketing product I’d also like them to click through from my site as well, it’s a mutually beneficial relationship.

How I drive traffic to my website

website trafficPeople are always asking me the best way to generate traffic; they are constantly buying eBooks, courses, and traffic programs to try and do it quicker. Sadly after they’ve done this they are still asking the question.

So, here is a list of things I’ve actually done to promote my site this month. If you implement them, I’m sure they will increase the amount of traffic you recieve, so sooner, some more long term.

Hope it helps.

1.      Submit to directories:

I’ve probably submitted to about 100 directories ranging in page rank 0 to page rank 9. I’ve used to paid directories out of 100. Yahoo, and hotvsnot
Yahoo took about a week to approve me (cost is $299 with no guarantee’s) whereas hotvsnot which is a pr 6 took less than 24 hours to include my site.
Ps. If you’re doing this manually, get roboform you can thank me later! J

2.      Article Marketing:

I’ve used dozens of article directories this month alone; of them all approval seemed to take between an hour to two weeks. Of them all Article Rich at http://www.articlerich.com approved my articles the quickest despite a warning saying it could take some time! Hit these guys up first if you’re in a hurry.

3.      YouTube:

Ok, I didn’t know how to make a video (hey now, that’s not nice… I can hear you laughing) so had someone make a couple for me. Haven’t noticed much in the way of traffic so far, but I’m still hopeful. I know the purpose of the video is to drive traffic to my site, but hey, let’s reverse it. Go visit my video NOW…. (just kidding) now=please! Youtube channel

4.      Social bookmarking:

Ok, I cheated and used a bookmarking service. Seriously, it would have taken me a week to try and do it manually. They charged me less than $100 bucks and submitted my site to over 500 social bookmarking sites. If you’re interested, here’s the link.

5.      Social Media:

Facebook, Twitter, and Squidoo have been my main methods of Social Media sites I’ve been using. Here are a couple of ways I use them to drive extra traffic to my site. 1. Whenever I post on my blog, I update both Facebook, and Twitter to let my friends/followers know. 2. I’ve setup some auto posts using a handy little free website called hootsuite that allows me to schedule “tweets” to go out at predetermined dates and times. I find a good ratio to use is 3 to 1, so basically I’ll send out 3 tweets without including my (or any) link, and 1 that does. This way you don’t come across as spammy.
If you would like to follow us on Twitter you can find us here at www.twitter.com/plrnetmarketing

6.      Blog Commenting:

This one I use sparingly, but whenever I’m visiting a blog and find an article particularly interesting or valuable, I’ll leave a comment for the author with a link to my website. I try to always use “Blog Commenting Etiquette” when posting. 1. Try to add something of value to the discussion. 2. Read the post before commenting (I know, common sense, but you’d be surprised how often this happens). 3. No one word comments (refer to rule number 1). 4. Don’t bold or italicize your entire comment.
Posting on Blogs in related niches is a great way to introduce yourself and your blog to likeminded readers.

7.      Signature file:

Use a signature file in your emails as well as any forum’s you may post on. People are always curious, and may just click to see what your site is all about. Especially if it relates to something they are already interested in.

8.      Make top ten lists like this one:

Some of the most popular posts that get the most traffic, are simple top ten lists related to your particular niche. Try to answer questions people are searching for answers for. Chances are if you’ve looked it up, they’ve looked it up!

9.      Submit your Blog and RSS feed to directories:

If you do a Google search for RSS feed directories, you’ll find lists of RSS and Blog directories where you can submit your site/feed to. In about an hour you can probably submit to about 50 directories.

10.  SEO your site:

Spend some time validating the html on your website, create a sitemap, make sure you have no broken links, and spend a little time optimizing your keywords. All these things will add up, and in the end you’ll start to notice Google sending you more and more traffic. If you can get on the first page of Google, you will definitely see an increase in traffic.
