Tips for Generating More Readers to your Blog

Generating More Readers

One of the toughest things to do when trying to work seriously on a blog is draw in more readers. However, this is also an important aspect of getting exposure for your work, and if you work from home on a blog for a living, then it’s also crucial for making money. Regardless of how your blog generates income, it likely relies heavily on bringing in traffic in order to do so. Here, we’ll go over a few simple tips for getting more readership, both in terms of the blog itself as well as outside it.

The obvious answer to the problem of bringing in more readers is to expand the amount of content your blog contains. This is effective for several reasons: firstly, because the more content your blog has, the more content there is that has a chance of attracting a particular reader. Secondly, web pages with large amounts of rich content (that is, text, video, etc.) are more likely to be crawled by search engines than sites that are relatively devoid of it. This means that simply by creating more content for your blog, you are effectively optimizing it for certain key terms in search engine queries. For example, writing a few entries or posting a video about your dog doing hilarious tricks will dramatically increase the number of readers who see your blog when they search the internet for blogs, videos, and so forth regarding dogs doing hilarious tricks.

A somewhat more convoluted way of increasing your readership is to actively promote your blog. This can be done in a number of ways, either by posting links to your blog on related forums (if you have a fishing blog, registering at some fishing forums and promoting it there will get the best results), or by sending your friends in social networking groups a link to your site.

Lastly, you can try to increase your blog’s readership by improving its link popularity. Link popularity relies on the number of incoming links from other sites, and the quality of those links (are they sites that are frequently visited by real users, or not). It also directly impacts the likelihood of your site coming up on a search engine results page. That said, often the easiest way to get more readers for your blog is simply by blogging, although other tactics can also help you tip the scales.

A Few Tips for a Successful Blog

Blogging tips

Running a blog isn’t an easy task, but can certainly be a rewarding one. In order to keep your blog running smoothly I’ve compiled a few tips to keep you on track, and heading in the right direction.

Tip #1

Blog consistently – I personally strive to blog once daily, and will even go back and fill in days I’ve missed due to illnesses on my part, or heaven forbid a virus on my website puts me down for a day. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to commit to once a day, once a week, or once a month, but be consistent. If you’re going to commit to once a week, make sure you’ve got your post out on time, nothing loses a readers interest in a blog faster than no updates in an extended period. You can even use the scheduling function in wordpress to have your blog post go out at a set time and date.

Tip #2

Find your voice – After writing for a while, you’ll come to find your style of writing, you may even go through several until you find the one that “feels” right to you. When you start to develop a loyal following of readers, a big part of the reason they visit your blog is because they find YOU interesting, and want to hear what you have to say on a particular subject. When I first started I was writing my blog posts like I was writing for ezine articles, now I’m trying tone it down, and keep it more casual, I’m still in the process of finding the voice or tone that works best for me.

Tip #3

Connect with your readers – Don’t be afraid to open up, and connect to your readers, you’ll build trust and discover new online relationships some of which may even lead to real world encounters  with fans of your blog. It’s a good idea to have a picture of yourself, as well as an “about me” page where you can tell your readers a little bit about yourself, your hobbies, interests, family life, etc. Don’t be afraid to open up. After all, a lot of what makes your blog yours is you!

Tip #4

Spelling and Grammar – While you don’t have to be an English major, you do have to be understood in order to get your point across to your readers without it having to be a guessing game on their part.
John Chow who is one of my personal favorites and a very well-known blogger always has grammatical errors, but it’s in such a way that it only leads to the charm of the site. English is his second language, and for some reason, if you’ve ever heard john speak either in real life, or on video, you’ll soon start reading his blog and “hearing” it with his accent even. But he also makes a point to run spell check, and correct any errors as soon as he finds them.

Tip #5

Be easily found – Do your keyword research, or hire someone to do it for you. Spend the time search engine optimizing your blog so that you’re easily found in the search engines. Also it’s a good idea to have your RSS button easily found so that readers can subscribe to your RSS feed. Make it easy for them , I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found a great site or blog, only to forget to bookmark it, and then search in vain for it at a later date, and never succeeding. Don’t get lost! Remind them to bookmark even. If they like your site, you’ll be doing them a favor, if they don’t well they won’t click the button.
Either way it’s a good idea.
There are a few tips for improving your blog, and keeping your reader’s interested. There are tons more, and I could easily write an eBook on the subject. Hey? Now that might not be a bad idea!

Thanks for stopping in, enjoy the rest of your day!

Internet Marketing Tools

Internet Marketing Tools

Promoting a website or blog is often the best way to increase the amount of traffic it sees, and whether that site makes money by selling products or simply by users viewing ads, it’s important to understand a few basic ways in which you can boost the amount of traffic your blog gets. Blogging for a living relies heavily on a few key internet marketing tools in order to draw in more traffic, and here we’ll go over a few of the simple ways you can increase your readership and, in turn, use your blog to make money from home.

One of the things you’ll have to take into account when deciding how to increase your readership is that many search engines use the content on a page to determine whether it shows up on a search results page. Google AdWords is a handy tool that can tell you how many users are searching for a given set of terms on a monthly and daily basis, as well as how many other websites are in competition for that set of terms. Increasing the frequency with which you use certain key phrases will also increase the likelihood that your site is featured on a search results page for those terms. This is known as search engine optimization, and it is an easy way to bring more readers to your blog.

An example of search engine optimization as it is used in blogging might go like this: suppose you run a blog in which you write about cars. Including commonly searched-for phrases like “auto parts,” “car repair,” and so on will draw more readers who are actually looking for the type of information you provide. This is useful to you because it not only brings in more readers, but guarantees that those readers will be interested in your content.

You can also use a few simple advertising techniques for internet marketing your blog. For example, buying advertising space on a website related to your blog (in the example, you might advertise on a car-related internet forum) can help bring in more readers. Using these internet marketing tools to bring in readers that are invested in your content is one of the best ways to guarantee that they will come back again. That said, one of the best tools you can use for blogging is your own mind. The more content you write, the more readers you get.

Tips for Building your E-Mail List

E-Mail List

If you are looking for an easy way to work from home, then you may have considered a number of different possibilities. Some people start an e-business, although this typically takes a solid investment of time and resources, and some people simply don’t have what it takes to succeed in the world of online business. Some people write blogs, but this also requires a lot of time and a fair amount of writing ability. However, there is a solution for those that don’t have tons of extra time on their hands, or the capital to start a business of their own: the e-mail list. Here, we’ll go over how to set about building an e-mail list, as well as how it can make you anything from a little extra cash to a significant income.

An e-mail list is, essentially, a specialized type of newsletter designed to be sent to large groups of people electronically. The electronic nature of an e-mail list allows it to be published and disseminated free of charge, meaning the only money you spend will be on your internet connection and the web space upon which your site is hosted. This low starting cost means that virtually anyone can get started with a simple web site and a little marketing savvy.

The first thing you’ll need to consider when starting an e-mail list is, obviously, what to write about. Because of the large number of e-mail lists in existence, it’s important to provide something unique, or to provide better or cheaper information than your competitors. Writing about what you know is key here, because if you write about something in which you have little to no expertise, you will be beaten out by actual experts in the field. When creating teasers for your e-mail list to entice readers, be sure not to give away all your secrets in the preview. You’ll want to give them a reason to actually subscribe.

There are different ways to make money from a mailing list. Some e-mail list creators charge a fee for access to the newsletter, while others have an agreement with users that they can give out their e-mail addresses and, occasionally, other personal information in exchange for payment. Regardless of the method by which you make money, it is important to find ways (such as internet marketing, SEO, and so on) to increase the amount of traffic to your site.

Guest Blogging – How to Bring in a New Voice

Guest bloggerThose blogs that are most likely to bring in the highest readership and make the most money are those that keep their content lively and refreshing. One way to do this is to alternate writers, and consider guest blogging as a way of changing up the tone and feel. There are a number of ways to find a guest blogger who will bring in new readers and more traffic. One way is to link your blog to other blogs out there that have the same type of theme, and create a network of links that way.

Within this network, you could establish working relationships with other bloggers by commenting on their blog posts and linking them back to your own work. This is a good idea for several reasons. Not only could this draw their readers over to your site, but it could also help you establish a new voice on their blog, which they could do in return for you by guest blogging. The brilliant part of internet marketing is that there are no real rules, so if you want to start your own monopoly with other bloggers on a specific area of subject matter, you can do so.

That way, everyone benefits from guest blogging, including the readers.  Everyone knows how tiresome it can be to conduct a search on the internet for a specific topic and then find the same information over and over again. Those blogs that make use of internet marketing techniques and allow the introduction of new viewpoints will be the most interesting to read, and can effectively tie in product placement or affiliates without it being obnoxious. It seems, then, that the best way to be a good blogger is to read other blogs for ideas as well.

Just as in the real world of business, relationships in between competitors are sometimes necessary to create the right levels of supply and demand. By using guest blogging services, you are helping create a new community that is beneficial on both a business and personal level. This is what helps keep internet marketing interesting, and helps inspire more people to start their own blogs. Many bloggers start their internet career by commenting on other people’s blogs. Just be sure that whoever you bring in to comment or write on your own blog has a voice that you trust and find interesting yourself, or no one else will either.
