            A lot of non-marketers think of marketers as nothing but spammers.  It’s easy to understand why. We all get mountains of spam emails o a daily basis – regardless of whether or not we gave out the email address.

 But unless you want to be prosecuted and condemned for sending spam emails out, you’ll want to take precautions to be careful about who you email and why.  Spam is defined as unsolicited email messages that are sent out to the masses.

True Internet marketers don’t mess with spam because it hurts their credibility, risks their accounts, and doesn’t convert as well as targeted, welcomed email does.  You can have your ISP ban you for sending spam, and you can lose your autoresponder account, too.

It’s far better to use an opt-in form where people willingly enter their first name and email address.  In fact, it’s best to utilize the double opt in option most autoresponders provide.

A single opt in is when you just let the person enter their information once.  But what’s to stop one person from going around entering another person’s contact information for unethical reasons?

You want a double opt in to protect yourself.  Here’s how it works:

The user lands on your website and sees an opt in box, asking for their first name and email address.  They enter it (usually in exchange for a free download or the promise of information at a later date).

Then the autoresponder tool automatically sends out a verification email.  The end user gets the email alerting them that they’ve signed up to be on your list, but it asks them to verify their subscription by clicking on a link in the email.

This means if someone goes to your site and signs someone else up, that person will get a notification and have the option to decline if they weren’t the ones who really opted into the list.

Make sure you abide by permission marketing standards.  These people trust you enough to hand over important details, so don’t sell their contact information or abuse it in any way.  If you respect the people on your list, it will grow and you’ll have a readymade list of prospects that can help you earn more money on both a short and long-term timeframe.

PPC for search engines explained

Whilst the acronym PPC has an important role in today’s advertising model, many marketers and PR professionals have little knowledge of its benefits and what it entails. For ‘beginners’ PPC translates as Pay per click and as its name suggests, is a form of advertising relating to clicking on advertisements.

Rather than waiting for your website to appear organically at the top of a search engine, PPC allows you to advertise in one of eleven positions on a standard search page. Usually there are 3 positions available in a highlighted box before the organic results, and 8 positions on the right-hand side of the results.

When users click on these adverts, the advertiser is charged a certain rate dubbed a CPC or ‘cost per click’. The CPC depends on the advertisers industry and there are two ways in which this cost can be calculated. The first way is via flat rate PPC where the advertiser and the publisher (e.g.: Google) agree on a fixed price per click. This price varies on the competitiveness of the advertisers industry and the keywords they want to use. The second, the bid-based model involves bidding against other advertisers to gain key positions. Most PPC providers such as Google AdWords and Microsoft adCenter operate via the bid-based model of advertising.

The most enticing factor about PPC is its ease in measuring ROI. PPC advertisers can see how many people have clicked on their ads and how many people have completed the desired action of buying a product or registering for a service, i.e.: ‘converting’. By working out the conversion rate or ‘CR’ advertisers can see the success of their campaign or work out ways in which to improve their adverts.

To ensure the CR is high, the landing page or page on your site which you direct people to after they click on the ad needs to be compelling and direct the user to complete an action. If you want your ad to sell a product, then direct the user straight to the relevant product page to encourage conversion. The call to action should be strong so limit your landing page to specific products or directions so as to compel the user.

With the acronyms and jargon that is rife in many online marketing strategies, many organizations look to outsource their PPC management to experienced agencies, ensuring that their campaign is successful. Whether you choose to do your PPC in-house or utilize the services of a professional, make sure to do your homework so you understand the common terms and can measure the success of the campaign easily.

Internet Marketing Forum Launched!

I was just talking with a long time respected internet marketer, who launched an Internet Marketing Forum where marketers could go to share information, ideas, brainstorm together, and just interact and bounce ideas off of each other.

Now there are a couple of larger well known internet marketing forums already out there, but I started thinking, and there are some great advantages to building up a fresh new community of likeminded individuals from the ground up.  So I became a member, and am now starting to contribute to the conversations that are already taking place there, as well as starting a few myself.

Internet marketing, also referred to as I-marketing, web-marketing, online-marketing, or e-Marketing, is the marketing of products or services over the Internet.

As a full time Internet Marketer, one of the things that is a key component to my continued success online, is the ability to learn and educate myself. There are so many different aspects to this business, and if I had to guess at the number one cause of failure among aspiring internet marketers, I’d have to say it’s due to them spreading themselves too thin.

Too often someone reads a sales page from some internet marketing guru promising wealth, fame, and fortune, if they’ll just spend that $19.99 and download the eBook promising to explain the “secret formula’s” of the online world! Quite often these eBooks and courses fail to deliver, so they’re off in the search of the next “get rich quick” scheme. Often these people will spend hundreds or thousands of dollars in a continual search for some detailed explanation for how they too can become an instant millionaire harnessing the power of the internet.

The easiest way to make money online is to focus on one aspect of internet marketing and become an expert with it. If you’d like to make internet marketing your career of choice then maybe it’s a good idea to become versed in multiple methods of marketing online. Keep in mind any one method can make you a decent living, and often times you may never need more than one to provide a full time income. But on the other hand diversity means that if for any reason whatsoever an income stream that you’ve come to rely on dries up, you’ll have some others to fall back on. Plus multiple streams of income provide a much greater level of financial security allowing you to dip into areas that might be new to you.

Like most things in life it’s a good idea to have a set of goals keeping you on track and heading in the right direction. Being on the right track means nothing if you’re not moving forward and progressing.
I’d start by listing the different methods and ideas you think might keep your interest.  A while back, dog training was a very profitable niche, however if it holds no interest for you, you probably won’t do as well as you would in an area your more passionate about.

If you were to spend a week’s time on each subject, you’d be able to learn quite a bit within just your first year. If I were going to offer up some suggestions my list would look something like this.

Affiliate marketing – A very profitable area of internet marketing

Twitter marketing – Twitter is a wide open marketplace and easily capable of anywhere from hundreds to thousands each month with very little work

Facebook marketing – This has started slowing down lately with Facebook cracking down, but I know people still making 5 figures a month using Facebook alone

SEO – Search Engine Optimization (a skill that will serve you time and again)

These are just a few ideas to show you the way so to speak, there are hundreds more just waiting for you to discover. But if I had one piece of advice, I’d say spend a good week or two on each topic, and by week or two, I’m talking forty to eighty hours minimum! This is after all the way you’re going to earn your living!
