After Nailing Down a Niche You Need to Tackle Keywords

After you’ve picked your niche, you need to do some keyword research in order to get the word out about your site. Many beginning entrepreneurs make the mistake of choosing their niche and then launching a website shortly after that with no thought to keyword research.

But entrepreneurs that grasp the benefits of well-chosen keywords take the time to research because they understand the relationship between traffic and keywords. Proper keyword research will allow you to know which words get your target audience’s attention because those are the words they use themselves in a search engine.

Keyword research will position your website or blog at the top of search engine results so that your site receives plenty of traffic. When you’re targeting keywords, even subtle things like the plural form of a word make a difference.

For instance if your niche is pet training then it’s important to know that the word ‘dog’ receives forty five million searches a month while the word ‘dogs’ receives only sixteen million.

Your goal is to select keywords that will garner you the most searches per words. What you’re looking for is something with little competition but a lot of searches. You can shell out money to pay for fancy keyword tools like Market Samurai to help you in your quest, but there are free alternative tools like Google Adwords Keyword Tool where you still get the information you need to get the traffic you want.

Using the wrong keywords means you’re missing out on important traffic and missing out on the sales you could be making. You can use the wrong keywords and bring people to your site, but it’ll be those people who are not interested in what you’re selling. You want your keywords to be relevant to your audience.

When you build your site, you also want to make sure that you not only use keywords in your paragraphs, but you also want to make sure that you use keywords in your titles. When you pick a name for your website, select one with a keyword or keywords in the URL.

Remember the better you use SEO on your site, the higher it will rank when search engines display the results. One of the mistakes entrepreneurs make is naming their pages incorrectly in general.

Be specific. Don’t have an ‘About’ page. Going back to the earlier example about pet training, have an ‘About Pet Training’ page. When you put up a contact page or box, use a keyword phrase there as well. Such as, “Contact me for more information on pet training.” This nets you additional keywords.

Too many online entrepreneurs settle for becoming a marketer when they could be so much more. Are you one of them? Have you heard other marketers bragging about making thousands each week when you’re barely squeaking out a few dollars?

Take a look at what separates you from them. It’s not that they’re any smarter or any more talented. It’s simply that they found what worked and then worked it until the profits started rolling in. So how did they do it and how can you copy that success?

First of all, you have to know what you need to promote. Just because you happen to like a product doesn’t mean that it will sell well, so don’t just look for products that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Instead, research what the hot selling products are and look for the products that will give you a higher return. For example, 10% of a $1,000 product is $100 in your pocket. But 50% of a $60 product is just $30 in your pocket, so don’t rely on percentages alone.

Once you find a good item to promote, start marketing aggressively. Talk it up on your website, present it on your blog, write articles about it, bring it to the attention of the public on Squidoo, Hub Pages, Google Knol and on your other social media sites.

Next, go the extra mile. Everyone likes dessert. So after you offer the main course of the product, sweeten the deal with a little something extra that savvy marketers often call a bonus.

It’s sort of like the television offers you’ve heard: “But wait! There’s more!” which is a line used to seal the deal, to tip the scales in the marketer’s favor – which of course is the customer making a purchase.

You want to offer the product and then bring on the extra. You have to make it something the potential buyer really wants and he can’t get it without buying the product. Something that complements the original purchase nicely – not a bonus that’s irrelevant to their needs.

You also want to create a buzz or spread the word about the bonus offer as well. Not only do you let the general public know about the offer, but you also make sure your list knows there’s a special deal waiting for them if they buy.

Anticipation is what creates an appetite among buyers. The worst thing for a marketer is to have a product that no one knows about. While word of mouth will bring in a few customers, your pre-launch days for your product are what will bring in the masses. Do a count down until the product releases and once it goes live, let your customers race out of the gate to be one of the first buyers.

Internet marketers are a great bunch of guys and girls, and I’m always learning something new from each of them. I think the collective knowledge of this particular group of entrepreneurs is amazing, and I absolutely love being a part of it, and can’t imagine how I could have neglected it for so many years!

A great many of this group share some very similar habits, and I’m positive that it contributes to their success in this industry. I’m going to share my list of seven, but by all means feel free to add your own to the list!

Habit #1

The first habit I notice that we all seem to share is curiosity, and an exploring nature, a need to know as much about the subjects that we are passionate about, and we will go to lengths to learn as much about the subjects that make up our chosen profession as humanly possible. If you were to look at a group of a hundred internet marketer’s bookshelves (and EBook folders) you’d notice several of the same books being found on many of them. A thirst for knowledge is the first habit many of us share!

Habit #2

The second habit we all seem to have in common is the ability to take action. In a world that is filled with too many ideas, and roads to success, and where information overload is a word that lives in our dictionary, we still manage to take action, and put our ideas into motion in the hopes of propelling our businesses forward. When we make mistakes, we choose different roads to move forward on, but we learn and keep moving forward. We know that if we create a certain amount of momentum we will keep moving forward despite the obstacles or mistakes that may come our way. The ability to take action is the second habit we share!

Habit #3

The third habit we share is the ability to set goals, to write them down and make them real to ourselves long before we ever achieve them. It is this foresight of what things will one day look like for us as well as our businesses that keeps us moving when all others seem to be against us, and tell us that it can’t be done. We know that many of us before have done things that “Couldn’t be done!” despite the fact. Seeing what our success will look like, and setting those goals that lead up to it is the third habit we share.

Habit #4

We are builders! If you stop and watch an internet marketer throughout his or her day, you will see just how much he actually builds, and maintains. He is constantly building websites, backlinks, social networks, and assets in the form of blog posts, eBooks, video’s and podcasts. The number of hours that go into all the things an internet marketer builds would astound most people who come to the internet for the quick riches that they heard lie under every new product that promises to tell you the secret formula for making money online. Building assets is the fourth habit that we share.

Habit #5

We are great observers, we are constantly keeping an eye on the blog down the road, or the internet marketing guru who holds an Alexa rank of 2000 to see just what he’s doing right, so we can emulate those things, as well as avoid the one’s he’s doing wrong. We have campaigns in many different arenas with names like CPA, PPC, Opt in’s, bounce rates, and dozens more that we monitor and tweak until we get them perfected. Split testing is part of our lives, and while it’s a chore we still do it, and watch the results closely because we know the difference between a 0.8 CRT, and a 2.1, and just what it’s worth to us. Monitoring our progress or lack of in all our different metrics is the fifth habit we share.

Habit #6

We persevere, when things get tough, which they generally do many times, and in many ways before we find some small measure of success. But the reason that they become successful at what they do is that they don’t give up when they are kicked. When things don’t go their way, they research what others have done in similar situations, and if that doesn’t help they brainstorm, ask their peers, and finally as a last resort if there is no other recourse, they will start over if they have to, but they do not give up. When things are at their hardest, and success seems so far away, that is when they redouble their efforts and push forward twice as hard as before. Habit number six is perseverance!

Habit #7

We share the wealth, whether it be In the form of informative blog posts that we write day in and day out, or the sharing of methods that we have developed and spent countless hours cultivating until we are able to make a profit with it, one thing you’ll find with most internet marketers is that they are willing to share, both in wealth, and in knowledge and resources. Many go on to coach and teach thousands of others to do what they do, make their living online, the right way!
