A few weeks back in November, I noticed my twitter followers were slipping down below the 50,000 follower mark. 50,000 was a goal I’d set myself and wanted to attain. For the record it took me exactly 500 days to hit the 50,000 mark, and a fair bit of effort went into the process so I didn’t want to neglect my account and have it slip too far down.
Now fluctuating up or down on a daily basis is a normal event. People drop off Twitter, get suspended, or just lose interest in whatever your topic happens to be. If you’re growing your business however it’s a good idea to track your growth in order to ensure it moves up more than it falls down.
Two internet marketers who I admire and have more followers than me are Pat Flynn of www.smartpassiveincome.com and John Chow from www.johnchow.com
Both have taught me so much about blogging and marketing and have motivated me to continually hit new targets such as this Twitter one. So thanks to both of you!
Follower counts for each of us on November 12th 2011. As you can see I had to grow by almost 4,000 to catch up to John, and 2222 to reach Pat. Unfortunately John who hasn’t done any promotion with his Twitter account in ages took that exact moment to shift into overdrive adding over 3,000 followers in the next 48 hours, and several thousand more since! Looks like I’ve got my work cut out trying to catch up to this online legend!
Stats – Nov, 12, 2011
53,078 John Chow
51,909 Pat Flynn
49,687 Warren Wooden (PLR Internet Marketing)
Stats – Dec, 3, 2011
59,663 John Chow
52,226 Pat Flynn
51,687 Warren Wooden (PLR Internet Marketing)
Now I’ve committed myself to using all my Twitter tricks, and pushing my follower count as high as I can before the end of 2011. It’s my hope that by using my secret weapon (in case you haven’t figured it out that’s you!) J to propel me well over the 55,000 mark by months end.
For those who aren’t yet following me, please do so, and make sure to send me a tweet so I can follow you back. https://twitter.com/#!/PLRNetMarketing
Saturday seems like a good day to track this project, so for those interested in the results check back each Saturday to see my weeks results!
Wish me luck!

I think John Chow is EVIL – hey wait, so does he!
Pat is like the total opposite of John, great goals Warren, especially considering you’ve only been online a couple of years now. Good luck with your blitz.
You’re right Ginger, he is Evil! LOL
Thanks, We’ll see how it goes!
Great goals, Warren! Keep tweeting great stuff and all your followers will keep promoting you. I know you’ll kick ass and surpass your goals (… and your benchmark “competition”!)

Hey there Aaron, you know how much I love my goals, and my goal board!
Keeps me productive and moving forward for sure! My problem is I usually make way too many!
The Twitter Blitz Project is moving along nicely! I’ve passed Pat Flynn now, and slowly moving up on John Chow. If only he’d sit still long enough for me to catch up! LOL
Warren, Its great to see that you are 2000 followers up in less than a month.
I had ignored the use of twitter for the most part. I was concentrating on Facebook only. One of my friends insisted that i should use twitter too.. I was really not happy using twitter as it usually looks heavily spammed and there are hundreds of software that can help you in increasing the follower counts.
My friend shared a few tips with me, and now the follower count has been increasing. i mean last two weeks i saw an increase of 15 followers, it is indeed a BIG thing for someone who really ignored twitter!

Hey Krysta, thanks so much for stopping by.
For me Twitter is my third largest source of traffic to my blog so it isn’t something I can ignore. I’ve also managed to make thousands of dollars with my account, and it continues to make a few hundred each month through buysellads.com
It does take a bit of work and engagement with your followers, but it sure can pay off in the long run!
If you’d like to share your twitter name, I’ll be sure to follow you!
Hope you’re having a great day!
Hey Warren,
Wow, great job with those numbers. Are they for the most part quality followers? I clean my account on a regular basis and haven’t gone out searching for any new followers in months. I don’t want the numbers if people aren’t tweeting. I know I should put more thought into that with the coming year so thanks for giving me the incentive to take it up several notches. I guess I better get myself in gear.
Thanks for sharing and great job!

Adriennes recent post ..Why You Need A Bulletproof Mindset To Succeed
Thanks Adrienne, with a blitz like this only certain parts of the campaign result in quality followers (Banner advertising, mutual following, etc) while others like using services like Twiends result in untargeted followers, but even those serve the purpose of adding a social proof, and financial aspect to the account. I’ve been charging $39.00 successfully for quite some time for a tweet. This allows me to either remain at that price point and add more value or increase my price. (I’ll stick where I’m at)
I like having my year end (business) on March 1st. You get all motivated with actual year end, then New Year’s resolutions, and finally trying to add some last little improvements into your business before the business year end! LOL
I have a second year interview scheduled as a follow up to the first year one: http://aaronhoos.com/2011/03/29/interview-reveals-how-plr-internet-marketing-achieved-shocking-success-in-only-1-year/
Have to make sure it’s equally impressive!
Wow Warren you really have a lot of followers, I have just a little over 2100 followers and i pretty much struggle to get more but it would take me more than 10 years to reach you in the current growth rate lol, anyway I just followed you

Tosin|Home-based business coachs recent post ..How to Build a Successful Mailing List for Your MLM Business
Hey Tosin, for sure, I actually wrote a post on the subject when I hit 50,000 http://www.plrinternetmarketing.com/socialmedia/how-to-get-50000-twitter-followers/
With Twitter, they say it’s all about numbers. Which explains the obsession we all have to get more followers. But I have learned along the way that more important than the number of followers is the number of tweeple you actually engage with. Also, we need more targeted followers. What good is having followers who don’t care about what you have to offer?
I wish you all the best, Warren, both in meeting in target follower goals and in engaging with them. Looking forward to following you. Cheers!
Srinivas Reddys recent post ..Child Or Baby Not Eating
Hey Sriniva, always nice to see you and get your opinion.
Number 1. We are on a whole obsessed with numbers it seems (including myself) which is why we like to see others with large followings, and better yet be the one with that large following.
Number 2. You are right about engagement. There is no way you can be connected to more than 1000 or so followers, and someone who is able to will always have a better return over someone who isn’t able to engage with his followers.
For me I made the choice to have a large number, and then choose the most interactive ones and engage them! LOL I’m very loyal to the ones who RT me, follow my blog whether they are trying to help me grow my business in some way, or whether they are seeking my help to grow theirs.
Each day I spend an hour connecting with fans/followers/readers and I suppose if it ever gets to the point where I can’t find the time to do that I’ll have to either give up on growing further or hire a partner to help!
Have a great day Srinivas
Warren I too have a high amount of followers (around 55,000+). But for me it’s not about the numbers it’s about the amount of relationships I get, the amount of traffic, my reputation and so much more.
You can have 100,000 followers but if they’re not targeted and you’re not getting the results from it then what is the point?
I love Twitter though, it’s also one of my top traffic sources:)
Hey Lilach, you’re right! And traffic can be a great indicator of how well you’re using Twitter.
For me Twitter comes in in 3rd place with Google being number 1, and Direct traffic being number 2. (Poor Facebook is sitting around number 6, guess I know where I need to focus some time)
I was to have fans that are will to tweet we me, share me tweet and communicate with me. It’s difficult to have an audience that is engaging but following the right people is key. I have managed to create great friendship on twitter and have created some wonderful partnerships too. How do we get more engaging that’s the key, care to share any insights?
Hi Warren,
An impressive number of followers! Can you share some of the ways how you managed to build such as following?
I’ve had a Twitter account for ages, but still don’t know how to really engage with the followers. I have a few thousand but I doubt many of them know who I am.
I’ve followed you on Twitter!

I also using twitter. It is my third greatest resource of traffic to my site so it is certainly not something I can neglect. I’ve also maintained to create countless numbers with my account.
