If you have a website and are wondering what the best methods of promoting it are, you may be considering whether or not to list in Yahoo or not to list. Yahoo provides, along with all of its other various services, a directory that allows you to list your website within it. This could be worth your while if you use SEO techniques properly to make sure that your site gets to the top of the list. Otherwise, your site may just get lost in the shuffle and the fee that is associated with this listing probably won’t be worth it.
The way that this site directory works is the same as many others, which is why to reap the benefits of listing in Yahoo you will definitely want to utilize some basic SEO techniques. This is one of the most fundamental aspects of internet marketing that can be quite easy to master if you are at all inclined to do so. Even those who have no experience with any of this can learn to research the most searched for keywords and get their site up there in the various search engines, including Yahoo’s. As a result, whether you decide to list in Yahoo or not to list will depend on how much effort you are willing to invest.
One of the big pros to those wondering if they should list in Yahoo or not to list is that Yahoo has a good reputation among internet users, and as a result you have a higher chance of having your website recognized within this directory than some other, more obscure directories. For bloggers who are just starting out with a new blog, this is quite important, for visibility reasons. You could have the most well-written and useful site on the internet, but if you don’t make use of basic internet marketing tools, and no one sees it, than it is all for nothing.
It seems then that those wondering whether to list in Yahoo or not to list have a basic question to keep in mind, and that is how much effort they are willing to put into this website. If you are just keeping a blog as a lark, it’s probably not worth your time. However, anyone who takes their site seriously and wants it to receive adequate exposure will probably want to go ahead and list it everywhere that they possibly can.

I’ve never paid to list any of my sites with Yahoo, and Yahoo has always picked them up, though in a longer period of time than a listed site perhaps. I believe if you have an effective web marketing plan in place, and do your SEO correctly, then actually paying Yahoo to list you is a waste of money…
Hey Aaron, being picked up by the yahoo search engine isn’t the same thing. When you submit to the Yahoo Directory, you get a link back from the Yahoo PR 5 directory which carries a bit of weight with Google etc.
For example here is mine: http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Business_to_Business/Business_Opportunities
It helps slightly with Search Engine rankings.
Cheers!
