How to Build Your Twitter Followers – Internet Marketing Meets Social Networking

follow me on twitterAs the business world continues to grow and expand, so does marketing. Gone are the simple days when internet marketing consisted of setting up a website and leaving it at that. Nowadays, with the advent of social media, businesses are seeing the value in creating online fan clubs for themselves and offering special deals to the “true fans” of their businesses via social networking websites like Facebook or Twitter. When it comes to Twitter in particular, it can be difficult to entice potential customers to follow your Tweets and keep them interested in your business. But there are a few strategies that can help you to increase your Twitter following and, therefore, your customer base.

One fun way to increase your Twitter followers is to host a contest through Twitter. You may not even have to offer a prize to be able to coax people to follow you. Sometimes, a contest can be as simple as asking a question and asking your existing followers to help you to Tweet their best answers to it. People love winning contests, even if all they really win is bragging rights. And as people that follow your contest participants see their answers, they may become interested in participating, too. Of course, if you want to really see an explosion of followers, offer a prize. Following a new Twitter feed is often considered a small price to pay for the chance to win a good prize. Contests are always a good internet marketing strategy, and Twitter is no exception.

The best way, though, to increase a solid following on your Twitter feed is to engage in conversations on Twitter. This may not seem like much of an internet marketing strategy, but, if you strip away the internet, you’ll see that it’s nothing more than networking without the face-to-face aspect. Find someone on Twitter that is saying something interesting about your industry and engage them in conversation. As you continue to converse, you may win that person over as a follower on your feed, as well as any others who were reading the feed and interested in it.

Using Twitter for internet marketing can be a highly effective strategy. It’s a simple and low-maintenance way to keep in touch with potential customers, since Tweets are so short. But, if used effectively, you can use it to grow awareness of your business and win customers for your business, 140 characters at a time.

  1. I just started using Twitter a couple of months ago. I try to follow people who might share interests and potentially take a look at my blog content. I tend to browse through my Twitter feed until I find an interesting link. I assume others do the same. It seems quite important not just to get lots of followers, but ones with whom you can have meaningful interaction.
