I'm planning to buy a new domain, and for that I could think the theme as Jokes, now I would like to know how much can a jokes site progress ?
Interms of earning, traffic, etc..

Also, as I will be sharing jokes (adult and non-adult) in the forum,what do you think, will adsense accept the website ?

I would like to know these so that I can invest, make people smile/laugh and earn :d

What sort of site are you looking to build, will it be just your own content or will you be allowing others to contribute.

You're best bet is to take a risk for a $8 dollar domain investment, and put it up on a simple hosting space or wordpress, then start creating content and marketing around it. TEST FAST NOW rather than thinking about TESTING for RESULTS.

Anything can make you money, all depends on you and the value you provide for your visitors. Good luck!

Joke sites used to be very popular .... I think they still can be but like Kim said above - will people be able to participate. Building a joke site around a social setting would be your best bet in this day and age...

People want to contribute, share, laugh with you, and etc ...

I want to create a homepage where you can see the latest jokes posted on forum, blog post and announcements !!
So, that means I would like develop a site in which you have forum and blog
And that implies users can participate

So, my doubt is how far I can go ?
Does everyone here thinks that it is a good bet, as I've seen some websites which really are not progressing and some has great participation from there users ?

Oh oh... I've bunch of friends but they are in different field and very busy to come online, so I doubt any of my friends will be taking part, only thing is that they can just write short comments I believe
So, What do you think is next safe and easier niche related to entertainment and fun ?

The thing is unless you are building social media into this type of site you will be hard pressed ... What I mean by that does it integrate with twitter, facebook, myspace, and etc..

In other words you would need an "app" that can be used on twitter, facebook, and myspace.. All 3 have an open API system so it can be built to integrate those but it is not something that is going to be easy...

Yup I'll be integrating all those features, as they have become necessity for every website now
I've started social bookmarking also for my blog for testing, so that I could guess how much traffic I generate through them

Jokes, at least the shorter one's will be perfect to setup up in Twitter and have them go out every 5 to 10 minutes, with a reference to your site of course. I think you'd grow you're followers fairly quickly because you come across as harmless (depending on the jokes of course).

I think where the money is to be had, is primarily through email marketing. I'd setup an auto responder with 365 of your best jokes and simply incorporate ads off to the side.
Then let people sign up for your joke of the day, and send out your best jokes.
I'd take the time to design a custom email, vs. the standard text version every marketer seems to use, and brand it to look like your website, complete with links in the header to help drive traffic.

I signed up for a quote a day once.... that was about 4 years ago.

I don't think it will get a lot of chance, maybe it would work but not that successful, spc now that there's a lot of social media and social networking sites wherein users post jokes/humor stuffs on their profile.

I don't have lot more experience with that kind of website but if you optimize your website properly then there can be some change for this website to into the market.
