Pen and Paper
Do most of you find like I do that I can do my best thinking and concepts with Pen and Paper?
I know there was a rage of mind-mapping software however the best mindmaps you can do are on paper. Get the book on Mindmapping by the original author Tony Buzan and use pen and paper. Get yourself colorful pens also.
I am somewhat OCD and I have my personal pens I do not lend to anyone, along with my collection of colored pens and colored sharpie markers...this helps me write and draw out my ideas on Yellow Legal Pads 11x17...These are my tools of choice when I want to think and free associate and just let my brain work through a process.
The other great thing about pen and paper is to use your mind to ask yourself questions to stay focused. See our thinking and life is nothing more than a series of evaluations and questions...think about it (question)
Ask your questions in the positive? In other words lets say if you want to lost weight.
Do not ask the question - Why am I so fat? your mind will search for answers and this means you are focusing or thinking on the wrong things.
However if you ask the question such as How can I eat healthier? You will find better answers trust me.
How can I design my website better?
If I was my customer what am I trying to buy while enjoying the experience?
Now if you were to put these questions at the top of a legal pad and write all sorts of answers for the next 45 minutes you may just come up with a great idea for your business or how to serve your customers better.

Re: Pen and Paper
I have pen and paper next to my computer at all times... I have about 30 pads filled with information dating back 10 to 12 years ago ....
Once full, it is filled in my filling cabinet in case I need it later...
Best tools any business can have ..plain old pen and paper... 20 years from now they may ask what is pen and paper ....lol

Re: Pen and Paper
Yeah I do Steve. I keep pen and paper next to where I sit, even in my truck so I don't miss any of my ideas. There is something about writing things down for me that makes them stick in my head. It's much more effective then typing on a computure for me, and always will be.

Re: Pen and Paper
Heat idea, but I don't use it
As the world is moving towards automation and save paper approach, whatever come to mind I type in the notepad (that helps me in increasing my typing speed ) and then transfer it to my mobile, so that I can modify the idea easily.. I believe in automation and doing good to the environment

Re: Pen and Paper
Is this approach making you a lot of money ?
Are you thinking of ideas that at this time are unattainable to you ...
2 years down the road you will understand so much more about online in general that some of those unattainable ideas could easily become a million dollar reality .
Too bad that virus wiped out all your electronic memories . If you would have bought a yellow legal pad ( and planted a tree) you and the world would be richer .

Re: Pen and Paper
I always have an backup online & mobile as I said earlier , no need to fear for the wipe out or virus attack, as there are only slim chances that both the original and backup files are wiped out.. Also, if you say I'm using more memory then a text document takes memory in few Kb's
Now I would like to add onto it, that suppose you are writing your ideas on a paper and by mistake or due to some natural or artificial cause the written docs are on fire, then you will also loose them
So, I would be in more advantageous position than the paper writers

Re: Pen and Paper
I'm another fan of the old fashioned approach. I am not a cell phone user and it's pretty tough to carry around my desktop. A little notepad, however, is perfect. I keep one in the car, one in my handbag (when I use one), one on the dresser next to my bed and one on my desk. If I go outside, I take one with me and especially when shopping. The niches you see when you go shopping and really watch for them...you'd never be able to enter them all in one lifetime.

Re: Pen and Paper
LOl i use the old whiteboards (i have 3 full ones right now), a digital recorder(like the ones Ghost Hunters use for EVPs), and about 30 yellow notepads. I keep a recorder and a pocket notepad with me everywhere I go, because i never know when i will see or hear something that will inspire an article or blog post, oh and I keep James on Yahoo speed dial so i can bug him ( except when he gets locked up in the AP lab by his own creations, like last night).

Re: Pen and Paper
lol !! you are burning your own ideas...
Actually the point here is, pen and parer aren't that much useful, according to me, as I've specified the reasons above
Also to addon, longevity and readability of memory devices is far better than pen & paper, as not everyone has good handwriting and they can't read what they have written (sometimes) & paper get rolled up or it turns into yellow color, that is spoiled, if not used for 1 or 2 month.
@JamesStein
You can call me paper hater, but actually I'm environmental friendly

Re: Pen and Paper
Jim and JP,
Yeah I still use a white board and they work great, but I still use paper and pen to log them for furture reference.
The problem with white boards is that you can scribble your ideas on them but eventually you have to erase them to use the board for another idea.

Thats why I have 3. i have 2 that stay static, and one for ideas and planning things out. then I write them down once i figureout what i want.
one is my writing list, where I keep track of clients articles, how many I have to write, and who is next in line
one is my weekly and daily task list that I erase as i finish each task. when the board is clear, I am done for the day( for some reason it is never clear though )

Re: Pen and Paper
I am amazed at how many actually need to write their ideas down.. All of my "ideas" are in my head where nobody can steal them. I use pen and paper for passwords but not ideas... Passwords can always be relaced, ideas can not... Can't you tell I trust nobody ..

maybe it is because you are an evil mad scientist hand have boosted your brain power outside the normal human capacity.
personally, i have too many ideas in my head to keep them straight writing them down helps me get them organized and out of the jumbled mess of my mind.

I am not sure I would call it a gift though .... It can also be a curse if you get my drift ....
An edge, yeah sometimes... but I am also used to it so I really pay it no attention... Now I am getting older though and sometimes I can not find crap on my own forum... I know the post is there but sometimes just can not remember where...

Re: Pen and Paper
Old man ??? I may be old but I am not too old that can not turn a young boy over my knee ... Or or or I know, here goes a favorite of some old men fathers - "Boy I brought you into this world and I can take you out" ...
Ok I am just rambling now... Been exposed to BN to much as of late...
The search function - bad thing is many of the old threads would not pull up under the new search due to the upgrade from SMF..
Course I did pay out favorite peanut man to add tags to all the post ..
