Directory Submissions
Despite what you might heard - Submitting to directories still works..
you can even find sites like Web Directories List - 16,000 up-to-date free, paid, niche & regional directory listings. with more than 15.000 listed directories
(that will keep you busy for a while LOL)
But you need to check if they have some ip diversity - a free useful tool is this one here:
A Directory List | Check Links
just copy and paste your list of directories and you will see which of them are sharing the same IP address - let me tell you right now
you WILL be surprised...
I dont want to be accused of spamming so I am not recommending any submitter here but those submitters where you have to
click each and every directory link with your mouse (and then the submitter fills in the details) are definetely a thing of the past...

Re: Directory Submissions
Karsten,
Submitting to directories actually provide a couple of benefits .
The first is the fact that a lot of people use these different directories . Live eyeballs is always a good thing .
Now the second part deals with backlinking and we all know that is not a bad thing .
The same IP thing is a product of auto-submission software . The coders needed sites to submit to so they usually outsourced to get them . The same IP is not a bad thing , although the effectiveness is in question.
What does hurt is the ones that are own the same domains and put 100's more on sub domains . Duplicate content will not hurt your rankings if you are using like one sales page and one capture page with the same content on your sites . Duplicate content on several sub domains will. The search engines looks at this as manipulation of content for rankings .
Auto submission software is not a bad thing if used responsibly. For the webmaster with several sites , it is almost a requirement .
Great post
Troy

Karsten,
First off, it is not Troy's (No refelection on you Troy) place to change anything administrative wise in this forum. It is unfair to put him in the middle! It is not your place to tell him to do anything! In fact, it's not your place to tell me to do anything either!
Secondly, I don't know who you think you are, but don't ever come into this forum asking someone else to do something for you like that. You've already sent God knows how many emails to me, and have already gotten a response from me - DIRECTLY!
Contrary to what you may believe, You do not own or run this forum - I DO!
If I were you, I wouldn't bring the subject up again!

Re: Directory Submissions
I honestly don't know what they are talking about changing anyway.
Plus a lot of differences in administrator and moderator . One being ... the administrator pays the bills . Paying the bills gives the authority to make the rules .
Moderator tries to enforce the rules the administrator has every ( and sole) right to make .
Side note .... Glad you are back... safe and sound ... Think your members missed ya ? Been a little quiet while you were gone .

Hey Troy,
Thanks for the warm welcome home, and catch up on what's been going on. I appreciate it, and you helping us out while I was gone! As they say where I come from, "You're a good man Charlie Brown"!
As far as the note to Karsten above goes, I hope you know that it had nothing to do with you. You just happened to be the person caught in the middle of this one.
He's been around here long enough to know better, and he's been on this same subject since a month after this forum openned. He sometimes thinks he can tell the Admin to do whatever, and it will be done. Lol you and most others know that that isn't the way it works - at least not on this forum.
Anyway, thanks again for your time and effort!
Oh, did you want to keep that status for the time being, or did you want me to put you back as an active member? You don't have to do the Modong, but you do get some extras.

Troy,
Okay, I'll leave you as is until you say otherwise. This way you can retain the privileges you have now. Plus I know I will be going out of town for 4 weeks at different intervals during the summer too. This way I won't have to go hunt someone else down.
Thanks!
