My Kingdom For A Horse
Now most of you will realize the reference in the title .
The question is ... what if you really needed a horse ... would you have a kingdom to trade ?
I do a lot of promotions for different webmasters . The majority feel that if they can just get to the top page for their keyword ... all will be well.
Sorry but this is seldom the case.
An army of one ... well it is only one . Being king is nice but if you are the only one in the kingdom....
The same goes for online marketing . One site in one niche is virtual suicide . maybe you are raking it in today . Well tomorrow could find you not ranking for the keyword anymore .
Find you ranking 4th instead of 1 . There is a big difference in traffic there alone .
Stay away from
 Just one niche
Multiple niches will save your butt if one falls through.
 Just one site
See just one niche
 Just one form of promotion
Article marketing is my favorite .... if it actually did die tomorrow .. my business would survive .
Just on type of traffic .
Now I love SEO, both on and off page . The rules are always being tweaked . Search engines may love your niche today .. hate it tomorrow .
 Just one revenue stream.
As I gaze into my crystal ball I see affiliate marketers really beginning to cry in the not so distant future . Diversify . Your own products , affiliate products, physical products .
Now I could go on and on but I think you see the point .
Start building your kingdom today . If you ever need a horse... you will be glad you did .

Hey Troy,
Excellent post!
I didn't know you promote for other webmasters. I'll have to keep that in mind when promoting this forum. It is good info to know.

Re: My Kingdom For A Horse
Great post Troy ....
I actually only deal with my own products and services but I do have a wide range although in some instances they all relate to a certain degree also.
I actually spend more time promoting my authors / members than I do myself ... But of course I also run my business a great deal different than most...

The Admin ran a beauty contest for it . We were the only ones to show up. Almost positive , after a quick look at the contestants , they decided to draw straws .

Uhumm ... lol yeah well, I figured you had enough with your own forum.
Besides, I didn't see you making him a mod, so I wasn't going to waste the opportunity snatching him up.
There always has to be one in the crowd doesn't there?

You better get some plastic to cover that keyboard of yours James cause I have this feeling you're going to be doing a lot of splurfing.
Secret Mod huh?
And yeah, I figured you were joking. Surely a tough burly guy like you wouldn't whinn about something like that.

Re: My Kingdom For A Horse
Thanks for the invite over here Mary,
now to go back on topic for a minute..
i agree with Troy on going after diverse niches with one simple difference.
When you are starting out, focus on one niche until it succeeds. then you can diversify and build more sites even faster than the first.
The first success is always the hardest. No matter how much research you do, you are going to make mistakes. Once you get one site working, and bringing in some money, then you can diversify into other niches. You can also reinvest the money you are making from the first site to build up your new niches faster.
now, I know James S. will freak out about that,( he hates spending money)
however, like everything else online it is a matter of choosing what you want to invest into your business. you can either invest a lot of time doing everything yourself, or invest money into paying others to do the work for you. either way works, but sometimes outsourcing can work faster, especially if you hire a competent freelancer.

Re: My Kingdom For A Horse
Well, it's because you are a Scrooge...
always stirring up trouble and complaining about people who spend money on their sites..
I like testing, but I have trouble forcing myself to complete tasks that bore me. Those are the ones that I try to outsource asap.

James knows I love him. he is largely responsible for my success online.
but i love giving him a hard time...
Some people think that I follow James blindly. thats just not the case. I learn a lot from him,and respect his opinion, but we don't always see eye to eye.

Yeah well, if I know James, he'd tell you not to follow him blindly cause he doesn't follow others like that either. Neither do I.
But I know what you mean. We can learn from anyone, including what not to do.
