What would you do to get visitors to your site if Google closed today?

Oh that one's easy Jim.

I'd do what I'm doing today - use the other serach engines, articles, link in main directories and authority sites, forum marketing, blog posting, launch products and start an affiliate program, and do some media ads.

I read so much in forums about Google, I wonder how many folks even consider the other promotion possibilities......

I am convinced that few do.......

If you depend you business upon google then you are making one huge mistake. It is like telling someone they must and need to only submit to EZA ...lol Worst advice I ever heard. If google went out of business tomorrow then it would not effect my business one single bit. Sure it might lower my traffic by maybe 8%.

Fact is the majority of your traffic should not be dependent upon search results. There are 1,000's of niche search engines that millions use, social media, web 2.0 sites, and so many other places to drive traffic.

You should be focused on all of them as a whole and not just google....

I think the whole point of the original post is to point out the fact that there are many ways to promote a business, without relying solely on the big G.


Considering the fact that Google has been "adjusting" their ranking methods for years, any thing is possible in the near future.
Including standards that many small business may not be able to meet.

I'd continue to use the search engines, as that's where most people go to find relevant webpages. If Google shut down, everyone would simply flood onto the next most popular search engines, so it wouldn't matter in the end.

This is a huge misconception ... The majority of people do not use search engines only a small 8% - 30% actually use search engines.

Yeah I know all the reports claim most use search engines but the facts are most do not. People have their favored sites that they visit constantly day in and day out and many get their information right from those sites and not a search engine.

Well if that is the case those 8% of that do use them use them an awful lot!

I don't specifically gear everything I do toward Google - but given the fact that Google will be in control of the one world government within the next 10 years we might as well get used to working with them

most of my traffic comes from sources other than Google. Social is where it is at today. Social networking sites, social bookmarking, blogs, and still one of my favorites forums.

if you focus on these sites you can get more traffic than you can from google, but you can also get the google rankings. I will take the traffic they give me, but i dont focus on getting those rankings too much.
