I contend that speed is dependent upon how much input one does.

I would say social bookmarking - BUT remember usually this only lasts for a short time period. You will have to get backlinks, and do some on and off page SEO to make it more perminant.

Honestly, you use Social Bookmarking to get Traffic. Traffic comes as a result of Social Bookmarking, etc, you get the point.

Which Social Bookmarking site will you use? Digg is very good, along with Stumble Upon. I never really learned the ropes of Delicious.

It's not really an either/or proposition.

SEO is just a matter of optimizing your website so the search engines know what it is about, and can match the site up with relevant search terms that get decent traffic. It also involves ensuring that the backlinks you build from third party sites use relevant keyword targeted link text, and predominantly appear on sites that are relevant to your site.

Social bookmarking is about building backlinks to your sites from the social bookmark sites. You should also try to build baclinks from a variety of other sites that are relevant to your site.

Basically, you should do both.

Well let someone that has done well over 4 million bookmarks in a year and someone that owns and controls over 150 bookmarking sites answer your question ...LOL !!!

First let me say this, some claim social bookmarking is short term and does not stick, this is not entirely true at all. If the bookmarking is done properly it will increase your rankings drastically and thus stick as your rankings will stay.

As long as you have your keyword research done properly and you do social bookmarking properly then there is not an issue.

Now onto your question...

It is not a matter of what is faster, who cares.. getting fast traffic does not = sales. It is a matter of quality traffic that will convert + random traffic both. You should be building backlinks with social media sites, web 2.0 sites, and social bookmarking.

Doing this will increase your rankings, your traffic, and thus your sales. If you are going to stick with just one thing then do not expect too much because the fact is you must have your links out there in many different places and no it does NOT have to be related to your site. Having some unrelated links are a good thing...

Your rankings fully depend upon backlinks and yes that includes bookmarks, the more backlinks the better the rankings, it's that simple...

Has not effected my listings at all .. I have some very high listings under very competitive keywords and I do mean competitive.

Oh and something I wanted to state but forgot...

Search engines (there are thousands of them used by millions) are looking for social validation these days, with social media exploding now they want to see your site validated by social media. This even includes google, look at google results (twitter even included in them) they are pushing towards social media.

Does this mean backlinks are no good ? Nope as matter fact backlinks are more important now then ever. This is how they validate your site with social media, they want to see social media talking, blogging, posting, and etc about your site.

Saturation......I hear the greatness of twitter....how is the value when million tell us about what they are having for lunch? I wonder...

And if Google has 80 % of the search traffic...that leaves 20% somewhere else......1.t6 Billion users....

Twitter is a spam fest in my opinion ... I agree with you people should find other means of promotion. I am actually testing a bunch of social media sites to see the effect it has because personally I do not think google has 80% as has been stated to the public..

I been playing with some of these sites, I have a huge list..

Actually some good information here but not seo.

The PPC ads do require a certain form of seo but it is more like optimizing for Google ... on steroids. True search engine optimization is a lot easier than optimizing for adwords .

As swaps and buying ads from established, targeted list owners is productive . Better watch the reciprocal links though ... short term traffic strategy that will bite you in your long term linking plan.

Look at link farms that are ranking for certai8n keywords ... the farm has 200,000 links and sits under the site with 2000 one way links .

Recycling traffic through list building , relationship building , quality onsite content is great .. still have to get them there the first time .

I feel social bookmarking much more easier than SEO... I say it because for SEO you have to apply your mind and make the required changes/modification to your website/blog and get more traffic & when you are trying social bookmarking you needn't use your head to that extent just goto some popular sites which provide you social bookmarking like digg, stumbleupon, etc.. and add your links

Actually SEO is better way when compare social bookmarking if you have long term goal, and if you want to get more traffic in less time (when compare to SEO) then social bookmarking is better. Also, why I say social bookmarking is for short term because there are many users who use it and use it randomly like spammers and that might make your share go to next page... Social bookmarking is faster, but SEO is better - because it brings in quality members, and also; can keep people coming back because of the rankings.
