Ok Opinions needed about coaching people on marketing
Hi guys,
Okay, after a couple of people twisted my arm about turning this forum into a place where people can get coaching about marketing and things that relate to marketing, I'd like to read your opinion about what I am seriously thinking about doing.
At the bottom of this forum, I set a coaching forum up for someone who asked me to coach them so they can make money online. To be honest about it, he recommended that I make the forum a coaching forum. So did about 8 others.
So, I may make that coaching forum public, and keep one section for private discussions if people need it. You know, there may be things people don't want everyone else to know.
Do you guys think it will bring more people in, and be more beneficial to offer free coaching to registered members as well as paid coaching?
Or do you think I should stick with the paid service?
I do offer a couple of people free coaching about marketing for every 10 clients that pay.
I'd appreciate some feedback because it's our forum, not just mine and Jason's. At least I'd like to think we can share in what happens in this forum.
Let me see your thoughts ...
Mary

Re: Ok Opinions needed about coaching people on marketing
Hi Mary,
This is just my opinion. There are four coaching models that an individual can pursue with success:
Paid Private Coaching
Paid Public Coaching
Free Private Coaching
Free Public Coaching
Paid Private Coaching. Honestly, in my own experience, this model always produces better results because the student has a vested interest. The keyword being "results" wherein the paying student produces profitable results, remains an active student, and in the end Paid Private Coaching produces a better student.
Paid Public Coaching. This is my least favorite model for one coach in a forum. The course material is easy to post. The difficulty is maintaining a level of understand across a large community. In my own experience it only works in the best interest of the students when more than one coach is active.
Free Private Coaching. The model works well in a forum to a degree. However, most of the same attributes of the Free Public Coaching apply. See below.
Free Public Coaching. Students do not have a vested interest, have a habit of missing sessions, fall behind, and tend to drop out. I just do not do it in a forum for those reasons. However, when Hot Conference is utilized, the group is 10 to 30, and rules are mandatory.. the model works well.
Please excuse me for going a little off topic, but personally I find that "work shops" builds membership sites faster than coaching.
My comments are just my own, based on my own experience, and I am not saying that it works for everybody.
Hope you find that sweet spot you are looking for my friend.

Re: Ok Opinions needed about coaching people on marketing
Hi Jeffery,
Yeah, I'm aware of what type of caoching there is, I was mainly looking for feedback as far as the forum and members go.
I agree with you about paid private coaching gets the best results. This is why I didn't turn this forum into a caoching forum already. I've been privately coaching now for about 2 years, and found it's the way I prefer anyway.
Yup, I agree about the paid public coaching too, for the very same reasons. It seems to me there is no personal assistance for the ones that really need it. I know I only accept 10-11 people at one time to coach and found that even at that low number, it can be extreemly over powering and tiresome for eveyone concerned.
I wasn't thinking of giving lessons per say as in lesson sessions. I was thinking more on the lines of everyone helping everyone else who can contribute. I know I will most likely be doing a lot of the one on one coaching on something like Skype or MSN, but if we get can add something like a conference setting where I can get experienced marketers as guests, I think it will help stimulate some discussion here in the forums.
Na, you're not off topic a bit. This is what I asked for lol. I want solid opinions, and things that work well! It doesn't pay to try to handle everything on your own. It pays off in the long run if you incorporate other people's opinions and experiences.
I appreciate your input, and thanks for the best wishes ...
Mary

Re: Ok Opinions needed about coaching people on marketing
I think if you make this forum a coaching forum, the forum will lose a ton of value. Make it a marketing forum and marketplace, or a coaching forum. It is very tough to do both, and the two don't normally mix. For one thing, the only people that will stay on the forum will be the people you coach, and this will leave out the majority of the market that will use the marketplace.
If it were my fourm, I would want people I coach to be the only ones listing people in the marketplace. Can you imagine that? It would be like selling to the chior!

Hi Synister,
I disagree that the forum "would loose a ton of value" if the forum serves both purposes. There is in fact already a ton of value for new/existing members in the "marketing forum and marketplace." There are professional posts created by professional Internet Marketers; business tips to make money online for beginners, save money online for seasoned marketers, and even tips to start a new business.

This is a great and helpful step you have taken to train people in internet marketing. However in my opinion the paid service should work on perfectly fine, and the coaching for free to the selected few must be solely on merit.I am interested in this coaching thing but presently am preoccupied with some urgent work. Can you please provide some more details.

Hi aryaman2008,
I ended up with retaining the paid service, and putting up private forums for them. Plus I've added a couple of people into the program for free. They also get into the private section.
Yes, I check out most of the people I accept into the free coaching, and if they are ready, I will most likely choose them. I can't say it's done on merit exactly, but it sort of is because it's based on track record, and how they handle themselves.
As far as you coming on board goes, you will have to wait anyway until I set up another group. If you are serious about it though, start posting in the forum more, and bringing people in to do the same. This will show your committment and drive to me so I can assess where you are, and how motivated you are.
What exactly did you want me to explain in more detail? I can, I just need to know what qustions you may have.
Thanks ...
