Default Do you prefer pop-up, or pop-under adverts?

Yes, our visitors hate advertisements, period, but which do you prefer? Pop-up, or pop-under adverts? Occasionally, people will click on them, which in return, earns you some money.

Me, I like pop-under advertisements. I really hate pop-ups.

I prefer neither as a practice, rather work at improving conversion on the page. But that is me. I realize I am projecting myself into the mix not testing pop-ups or pop-unders based on my 'feelings'...there is only so much one can do.

How about you Tom, are you experiencing better conversion using pop-unders than without?

Sorry, what's a pop-under?

I get annoyed with pop ups. But that's from a users perspective, from an web site "Internet marketer/earner" perspective I don't know.

DougPhilp, I like pop-unders. Nowadays, with pop up blockers, or with plugins like AdBlocker, they will not be displayed anyway.

JB, pop-under advertisements are those that scroll with the page, but are still on the same page. Occasionally, you find a script that doesn't have them scroll with the page, they just pop up, and you can minimize them, etc.

I prefer neither pop-ups nor pop-unders. Both are fairly inconvenient to me and I suspect that they are also quite annoying to visitors as well.

Hi Tom, yep most pop-ups can be blocked. I was wondering, do you have any tracking stats you might be willing to share with members about any pop-under use where you experience an increase with conversion vs. not using pop-unders?

Thanks,
Doug

I don't have any tracking stats, as I don't use either of them, I was just interested in knowing which people prefer more.

That's no problem.

It's good to know what others prefer.

I don't care for either the pop up or pop under. Ilike the banner or ribbon ads they have at the bottom of some sites I see. Those are out of the way, but yet visible. They aren't obtrusive at all.

I agree, but why place an ad at the bottom of the page, that's just - I don't know.

If I'm on a website, and I know there's no worth-looking-at content at the footer, I don't go there.

I have software that will generate almost any add it ...side slide...bottom slide... and some other pretty neat pop in type things.......
I will not use them...they irritate me when I go to a site and I think they irritate prospects......
But that bottom strip add, when used to capture subscribers looks like it might be the answer.....

If they are unwanted advertisement I don't prefer anyone...
By the way,
What is the difference between pop-up & pop-under advertisement ?

I know about pop-up's, but never heard pop-under before this.. I really hate pop-up's as they come suddenly while you are doing some important thing on internet & some pop-up's are really dangerous (I think you know, why I say dangerous).. I don't know why some websites keep pop-up..

It depends on the type of site. It is obvious that you don't want to distract visitors from your money page, but popunder and popin have their uses.

Hello,
of course many people hates pop ups because it is like a disturbance while we work on internet with out our permission the advertisements occurs it doesn't sounds good.

Edited ...

Neither ... They are annoying things and if I happen to see one on a site I leave. There are much better ways to grab opt-ins without annoying your visitors to death..

I prefer pop-unders to pop-ups, but I think both types are a waste of time.

Since I very rarely go the affiliate route I use neither . I simply place content around conveniently placed AR forms and give enough to make them wonder how much more I will give for an email address.

I am always intrigued by people who have popup and slide in email capture forms when you enter their site. Why would anyone sign up to an email list before they have had a chance to decide if your content worth the time of day?

The hover bars etc at the bottom of the page probably have more success while they are novel, but the more people that use them the more annoying they will become too.

Also the issue with those hover bars on the bottom, they seriously slow down a site.. Go look at articlesbase and articlealley - both sites speed has decreased by at least 25%

Exactly! That's the primary reason I don't use them on this forum.
