I bet some of you are wondering just what does wacthing Food Science Have to do with Internet Marketing or Marketing in general.
Well, I was watching the show the other eve, and the host invited a food phycologist on his show that basically did a very simple experiment that can give diffinative Marketing tactics that work on people's peceptions.
For instance, the experiment consisted of two different resturants that were serving the same meal to two different groups of people. The food was frozen fish and potatoes, with green beans.
One restarunt told everyone they were just opening up, and needed opinions. This place served all the food on or in plastic, except for the napkins which were paper btw. On the menu, the names of the dishes were kept simple and described the food to a T.
The other place served the same exact food, but with a little granish on the plates, and with real eleoguent dishes and silverware, in a good atmosphere. Oh, and they changed the main dishes in the menu to read like you would be ordoring in a very fancy restarunt.
The funny thing was, just these simple differences made a very big impact on the future business of both places. Most people desided not to tell their friends or family about the first, while the second couldn't recomend it enough. The first gorup associated the cheap setup with the food not tasting so good, while the other one raved about everything.
If you don't think this can be applied to your internet business and marketing I don't know that anything would impress you or work for you.
This is the same type of phycology that is used in sales letters all over the internet, and you can say the same thing about services, or basically any type of site out there. Of a matter of fact, I'll be willing to bet that if you sell your own products or someone elses products, especially Internet Marketing Products, then you are using similar stuff.
Think about it. Packaging and atmosphere make a huge impact on your business.
