Is this a big deal?
I was checking on an article I wrote not to long ago for our forum here. I typed in "learn internet marketing free", just to see if there was a chance I was up towards the top.
I got 16,900,000 results from that phrase, and to my shock and surprise my article is on the 1st page page, #10 !
Maybe I'm getting excited over something that not a big deal but anyway I was surprised that my article was there, it was published about 2 or 3 weeks ago.
Anyway I'm happy
Jason

Re: Is this a big deal?
Hey JB,
Yeah, it can be a big deal if there are enough articles doing the same thing.
What are the results without the quotes? That's what I go by since most people don't quote they serach phrases unless they are looking for something specific like you did or were.
Scratch the above comment, I just checked and you are still in #10 position.
It matters when getting traffic, plus it shows you the keyword phrase you are listed under, and how good your content is in relation to what Google is looking for. I'd say you wrote a pretty good article. Good job!

Re: Is this a big deal?
First page is a pretty big deal, but new stuff tends to rank higher and then drop. Enjoy it while you can, and if you are lucky it will stay up in the SERPs for a while.

Re: Is this a big deal?
Hi Jason,it's great to know that you are at #10 beyond your expectations. However,it just shows that your article was pretty good and the keyword you typed is relevant to the article you wrote. When people are making so much nowadays from website owners to get their sites get higher ranks in the search engine results, you got one without working towards it.One friend of mine is very good at getting high ranks in google but he does not reveal the secret.I will have to pressurize him and if i know will share here at forum.

Re: Is this a big deal?
Yippeeee , now my article is #1 for that phrase (out of 17.5 million). I plan on doing more articles, this has really sparked my interest. Hmmmm, It'd be pretty cool to get several spots on the first page.
I'll keep yall' posted as I get some more articles written.
Jason

Re: Is this a big deal?
Hey JB,
Good job kid, and I'm glad to see you excited about writing articles now. There's nothing better to get you motivated about something then to see proof of the results.
Proud of ya!
You keep this up, and we won't know what to do with you.
Btw, I took out the quote of your OP because whole quotes seem to mess with the SEs at the moment. It's like duplicate content. It shouldn't be but ...
I think it's the really long quotes that does it, but for the time being, I had Buffalo create some new over-riding rules for the forum. I put a paragraph about "Quoting posts" in it. You can find a button that leads to "FAQ/Rules" in the top red toolbar.
It will bring you up to speed too a little.
Lol read them and weep. J/K!

Re: Is this a big deal?
Hi Piya84,
I feel kinda silly saying this but "I don't know". I guess what I did do was try to write an article that would appeal to someone looking for a way to start learning IM'ing w/o have to pay $$ for training or a digital product etc.
So I guess I truely was writing to the reader and not necassarily to the SE's. I did, although, keep in my the keyword phrase "learn internet marketing free". I did work that into the article as well as some related phrases. I don't know what the keyword density was, or does it matter (IMHO) I found myself using that term and related ones several times, naturally, because after all, that's was the article was about.
My bottom line intention was to grab the readers attention and get them to click through to our growing community here!
The article was published on 2-12-09 and (as of today) has had 71 views and 13 url clicks. That doens't sound great to me, but maybe you guys can be a better judge??
I intend on writing more articles in the coming weeks, both for our forum and for a blog project that me and Shane are working on ...more on that later. So we'll see how those fair, I'll keep ya'll posted
Later,
Jason

Re: Is this a big deal?
It definitely is a big deal because of the topic. Everyone wants to earn money these days because of the way recession is affecting people. Anything which deals with marketing and that too online from the relative comfort of your home, is an attraction. People will flock to it.
