Hi Everyone,

I have had some problems with people submitting articles with porn sites in their bio box. The article itself doesn't have anything porn related. So in other words their working to be sneeky about it.

I've started blocking the IP addresses that are associated with the authors submitting these in my server control panel.

I have noticed that some of the authors have different IP addresses for their different offending articles.

Am I mistaken that computers typically have a static IP address? If so why does the same author have different IP addresses on their different articles?

Any suggestions or insite would be greatly appreciated!

IP addresses are easy to hide by using a proxy site.

Yes they are easy to hide, plus when you block some of them, you have to be very careful you aren't blocking a full network where other users can't see or have access to the site either.

People don't realize it, but they often block entire networks. For instance like DSL or cable companies often use IP networks where you can't tell what the real IP address is. Routers also do something similar.

I know computers have specific IP addresses for each PC, but there is a much broader spectrum to consider too, especially when you get into relays within networks and stuff.

I think PC's IP addresses are only 2 numbers out of the sequence of numbers in the actual full address. The other numbers are routes or called something else. And no, I can't remember everything at the moment. I do know however that a PC's real IP address is the way networks distinguish what networ that specific PC is a part of, and what they are authorized to do within the biger network.

It gets super complicated to tell you the truth JB.

Maybe I should unblock the IPs and just delete the account that pop up trying to push porn. I was hopin' blocking the IP would be a once and for all solution.

That depends. You could just ban them from the site as members because they are going against you TOS.

If I remember correctly, you had a policy in place that explicidly stated no gambling or porn articles and/or sites.

That's the way I would handle them.

Did you try searching Google for those specific IP addresses? Try checking using it to help you determin who is who, and who you should ban. You could also use a reverse IP lookup too to check them out. The membership to places like this are very cheap, and you can sometimes look up a set number like 25, 50, 100, etc .... for a specific set price.

What Is My IP Address? - Lookup IP, Hide IP, Change IP, Trace IP and more... (not an affiliate link) is the one that I use all the time. You can enter the IP address in to the box there and it will give you a geographical location of the user, or of the proxy they are using.

As the ip address can be hide using yourfreedom software, by using this software you can really hide your current ip address and again the new ip addres,and the server will be based in other countries. Many people apart from these software their use many proxy servers site to hide their ip address. New software should be develop to catch such kind of people accessing the software and proxy sites.

I realized some guys are doing the same at my AD but I found it rather funny sneaky bastards LOL
just delete the articles once in a while

It is kinda funny to have a article, and a fairly well written one at that, about visiting rustic Burmingham, or wherever and in the bio escorts in birmingham, bluh bluh bluh.

Do you know how to do a search for keywords contained in the bio box? I know how to search for keywords within the body of the article (within the php admin). That works for finding and deleting the articles that have escort or fetish in the body. But like you said they're sneeky.

I don't like letting those porn site slip by, not sure what the total impact is, but I know Googles not a big fan of porn, lol

I dont have the time nor the resources to get each and every article checked - so I just accept it as part of the game... (in my early internet days I spammed a lot of guestbooks - I guess this is kind of a bad karma payback )
