Default Using Digg to Come Up With Product Ideas

I've got a section in my bookmarks called "product ideas." Every time I see an article on the internet that I could potentially turn into a great product, I bookmark it to this folder.

Sometimes, I just stumble upon great ideas. But most of the 100+ articles I have in this folder, I got from digg.

What I do is go to Digg about once a month and look at the most popular articles for the last 365 days. Many of these articles have received thousands of diggs. Do you think there might be some interest there????

I have found that the health category gives the best ideas, but all of the categories do well for this.

Also, I look for list type articles. For instance, here's an article I've got bookmarked but don't have time to develop right now:

25 Killer Actions to Boost Your Self-Confidence | Zen Habits

This lists 25 different things you can do to develop your self confidence with short (20 -25 word) descriptions of the activity.

Can you see picking 10 of these activities and writing a page or two about each one? Voila, you've got yourself a short report!

Stacy

What a great idea, Stacy. In fact, I'm kinda miffed at myself for not thinking of it before. LOL. Thanks for the tip.

Digg is a great site. I use it frequently myself. I look at it as a way to get ideas, share information with others both professionally and personally, and a way to keep myself abreast of the trends too. I tend to be a hermit and get out of the loop of the trends. Digg is always right on top with trends and that is the best place to start anything new.

Yes there are lot of good articles at digg,i also sometimes visit them and have them bookmarked. But i just look for the contents on some new ideas or reviews of products and see how popular it is amongst the people.I have not yet thought of picking a few and developing them.Maybe later, your idea is good and it may be helpful for me too in the future.

I personally do not care for Digg as there is a lot of silliness and "trolling" that goes on, making the comments section rather poisonous at times. Reddit is a much more mature community and easier to sort & customize, although it has its down sides also - most glaringly a taste for political nastiness and some religious intolerance.

Metafilter is another similar site which has the benefit of charging a small registration fee for the ability to post. It's amazing what a simple $5 fee does for the maturity level of a web community.

Sometimes I am just in awe of what people are capable of thinking of/creating. This idea is great. Digg is a great website for finding different generational trends. Trend buying is really hot with our younger generation. They are the epitome of impulse buyers. I like this idea however that you have created. May be a tad bit time consuming, but none the less so worth it!
