Default serious mass emailing... :D

I recently got my hand on a big site and wanted to wet my toes with emailing the users a bit (the usual stuff, telling them about my worries, what I had for breakfast etc)

I would like to hear about your experiences, your ideas. about do`s and don`t , about the technical site (e.g. Hostgator has a limit of 500 emails per hour)
which script to use etc etc etc etc!

thanks in advance for every input
K

I use hostgator for hosting, but I've always used aweber for sending out emails. I've been perfectly happy with putting all of the sending hassle on them. I have multiple lists at one fee.

Hi Karsten,

That's funny you should ask ....

When I owned my article directory, the script had a built in email system where I could email X amount of people at one time. And yes, I used Hostgator for this site until I sold it last year. Now HostGator didn't seem to mind as loog as I didn't get spammy about it, or they didn't receive complaints. But I noticed it is hard on the servers this way.

There at the end, because of limitations set by the host and server load, I found an autoresponder that accepted non-optins, and used them. Then I started building a list for the same site. This list I kept in Aweber. NOw, I did ask some of the members from the AD site that were loaded in the first autoresponder to come and opt into the new list at Aweber, but most of them were lost in that transfer because they didn't want to optin in in the first place.

Lol, so I kept both lists going until Jason bought the site. Now I just keep the one on Aweber, and a couple of others I keep there that I've built from other things like my products, services, other niches, etc ...

It sounds confusing, but there is a way to email lists that are both optins and non-optins.

At the moment, no I don't have a reference because the first autoresponder that I used originally closed down here last year because they got to many spam complaints, and the company couldn't handle it any longer.

That's part of the problem now with lists like that first one I had. Companies are having to crack down on their members demanding they only use optins or double optins.

Hope this helps ...

One of my specialities is server management. Many (not all) of my lists are hosted on a dedicated email server. When you are the owner of server you are in control of the email software, policy, responsibility, etc.

The only email service I use is aWeber and that is for internet marketing because internet marketers have a high confidence level when they subscribe through aWeber.

Jeffery 100% :-)
