Affiliate Marketing: The Art of the Pre-Sell
Do you want to become a successful affiliate marketer? Then you have to master the art of the pre-sell.
There are so many advertising messages being blasted at us every day that we become immune to them. We see television commercials, roadside billboards, solicitations by mail that tell us to "buy, buy, buy." So, when people get into internet marketing, they think that they need to "sell, sell, sell."
But, what affiliate marketers really need to do is to pre-sell.
What is pre-selling?
When you pre-sell something you are basically "warming up" the person who comes to your site for the hard sale that the merchant will make.
A great way to pre-sell is to have a website or blog at which you give great great (non-salesy) information. For instance, if you are selling digital cameras through amazon.com, your website won't be "buy buy buy this digital camera." Instead, you might have a blog with articles on "the best way to eliminate red eye when shooting pictures" and "lighting options for digital cameras." Then, when you make a recommendation about the kind of camera people should buy, people will already trust you as an expert.
Another way to pre-sell is through an opt-in email list. Offer a report on "Eliminating Red Eye in Digital Photos" for free in exchange for a valid email address. Then, send them periodic emails with more information. You can either put a plug in for the affiliate product you recommend at the end of each email or you can send out stand alone ads from time to time. Either way, you will have built a relationship with the people on your list and they will trust your recommendation.
If you want to be successful in affiliate marketing, you will master the art of the pre-sell.
