Commute to work in 15 seconds
Oh, how I remember the long drive to and from work when I worked full time (1 hour one way). Now, that I work full time from my home office the commute is about 15 seconds. That is from my bedroom to office
Actually, I still travel to my old job once in a while because I am also a government contractor. It helps to stay up to date with my profession as an IT consultant. Also, the perks such as free specialty education. Last year I taught a few myself. All in all the drive is worth it, but I don't overdo it.
I do recommend that everyone try this at home (watching too much T.V.)
The only thing that does "get in my head and disturbs me" is the vacuum cleaner. I will never get used to that noise. My wife absolutely refuses to allow me to do housework. It is her upbringing.

Re: Commute to work in 15 seconds
Hey Jeffery,
I remember you telling me you had to drive to your office a few times when we first started communicating with each other. I didn't know you were working close to home now. That's like totally cool!
Lol I have to drive a ratius of 150 ml square. I never know where I will be called out to. But, I love my vocation too, and that makes up for the traveling time.
You lucky devil! Wish I had someone to do all my housework. I hate it.

Re: Commute to work in 15 seconds
I moved much closer to work two months ago, but I haven't quite been able to get my commute down that low. I am just so happy to be able to come home and eat lunch at my house rather than rely on fast food or leftovers. Yes, I spend more in gas money, but I save sanity in being able to escape the chaos that is my work.

I work at home too... Not only is the 15 second commute nice, but I love the dress code.
These days, about all I wear is either pajamas or gym clothes.

That is so good for you, working from home and no need to commute between home and office.I am feeling jealous of you right now as i spend more than three hours in commuting itself and that is very tiring apart from taking a lot of time.Hopefully,i will be able to do something which can do from home.

Re: Commute to work in 15 seconds
I finally managed to start working from home just over 2 years ago now. It is the most wonderful thing.
I have four children, three of them in school, and it's great being able to be available to them if they need me. Not to mention not having to worry about the added cost of daycare.
I also agree full-heartedly with the previous comment about dress code. Not just casual Fridays anymore.

Don't even get me started on the evil that is commuting. Last summer I worked at a place that was an hour away from home. The worst part is that for a while I even had to take the bus. My commuting took 2,5 hours from my life each and every day. I just decided that enough is enough and I quit. Now I work much closer to home.

Re: Commute to work in 15 seconds
I also work from home and I have to agree with all the previous comments, you don't get a better dress code and the commute for 10 seconds for me is just awesome. I struggled with it at first because I felt like I never got out of the house, between working and taking care of the kids and housework (my husband isn't very good with a broom, mop, dishwasher, washer, or any thing else that is cleaning unfortunetely lol). I did get into a rut where I swear my hair was in a bun every single day and my kids started thinking every day was pajama day because thats all they saw me in. After a while it wore off though and I try to get out more now. My husband just took a position at work that allows him to work from home and its only been a week, I keep telling him it takes getting used to, but in the end nothing beats it.
