Tips On Using SEO Smart Links

Create Multiple Links – One of the things that I highly recommend is that you create multiple links to each page that you create. If you write a post titled, “Tips To Make Money Online Fast”, then you should create links like; tips to make money, make money online fast, make money on the internet fast and other things like that.

Don’t Overdo It – Something that I have seen a lot of lately are people trying to build 20 links inside a 400 word post. This may be ok by SEO standards but this is not something you should be doing because it will turn off your readers. The problem with doing this is that you will have a lot of letters inside the post that have different colors and that makes it tough to read. Something that I would do is limit the amount of links you put in each post to 3 per 100 words. This is a good number to start with but like with anything, you need to decide on this number yourself.

Let Plugin do Its Job – If you are using SEO Smart Links, then you need to let the plugin do what it does best and create the links. Something that you don’t want to do is create links using similar anchor text yourself because then your link count will go up and this can mess with the software. Just make sure that if you are going to add a link that you only do so to anchor text that is not assigned to a page on your site.

How well do you manage your low hanging keywords? Are you building backlinks to low hanging keywords rather than large volume keywords? I ask this because most people do things backwards, instead of building backlinks to easy to rank for keywords they are targeting large volume keywords that will take them months if not years to rank for.

The reason low hanging keywords should be your friend is because they are easy to rank for and there are more of them. What would you rather do, spend 6 months trying to rank for 1 keyword with 10,000 local searches or spend 6 months trying to rank for 200 keywords with a total of 20,000 local searches per month? If you ask me this would be a no-brainer, I would much rather get double the traffic for much easier work.

Why are low hanging keywords easy to rank for?

The main reason low hanging keywords are really easy to rank for is because they don’t have much competition, the majority of people are building links to the large volume keywords and there are many of them to choose from.

Whatever niche you are in doesn’t matter, whatever keywords you are targeting doesn’t matter either, all that matters is that you know what low hanging keywords can do for you and act on it.

Tips On Targeting Low Hanging Keywords

Create A List – The very first things that you need to do is figure out which low hanging keywords you rank for and put them in a list. The reason you need to do this first is so that you know which anchor text you need to be using and where you rank for that particular keyword. The trick here is not to just create a list of all the words that you rank for, you need to target keywords that really represent what your site is about

Tip: I use Google analytics on my sites and I also pay for a monthly membership at Semrush.com. I recommend both of those but you at least need Google analytics.

Establish A Plan – The next thing that you must do is create a plan and get started. In the plan you will want to determine which keywords you will target first and how you will build links to your site. What I do all the time is write down which keyword I am ranking for, how much traffic it gets and where my site is. Once you know all of that then it will make it a lot easier on you to determine which keyword to go after first.

Now that you know how to target low hanging keywords you will need to start building backlinks. Being that there are many ways to create backlinks, I have come up with the 2 best ways to build quality backlinks in the shortest amount of time. In order to utilize your time wisely you will need to do one thing through and that is spin the articles that you write. In my experience I have found that it is best to write a 500 word article and spin it using The Best Spinner.

Best Link Building Techniques

Guest blogging – The best way to build backlinks is to do guest blogging. The nice thing about being a guest blogger on a website is that you will get a strong backlink from that site. Just know that as a guest blogger you won’t always get your articles published so make sure that you are taking your time and writing the highest quality content possible.

Tip: Write at least 2 guest posts each week but make sure you change the anchor text from time to time.

Web 2.0 Properties – Another great way to build backlinks is by creating web 2.0 properties. My favorite places to write an article and submit it is to Hubpages, Squidoo, Weebly and Infobarrel. If you can write an article, spin it and then submit 1 spun version to each one of these sites, then you will have no problem ranking higher for all your low hanging keywords.

As I said before, you need to write 1 unique article and then spin it so that you have many versions of that same article. You do this to save time and so that you can also create hundreds of backlinks without having to write 100 different articles. Just know that you don’t have to do this but this is what I have done with many of my sites and it really works.

Google is by and large the best source of free traffic available on the web today, and in order to take full advantage of that traffic we have to pay attention to certain SEO (Search Engine Optimization) aspects which include link building. Generally speaking, the more links, and the more powerful they are, the better the rankings you can expect in the search engines.

Building links usually gets outsourced to SEO “experts” because website and blog owners think there is some secret aspect to the whole process, but truth be told there are plenty of high ranking sites out there that are being run by people just like you. They say “practice makes perfect” and with the repetitive nature of link building you’ll soon be an “expert” yourself.

When building links to your site it’s important to remember that your site is made up of inner pages as well as a homepage. Link generously to all your pages and then interlink within your site to take full advantage of the SEO benefits that come with those links.

Link diversity is something that pertains to building an assortment of links rather than focusing the majority of your time on one you might find “easy” or “comfortable”. Many people get in the habit of only using commenting as a means of getting links and totally miss out on the numerous other methods out there.

I’d suggest investing in at least two of the premium ones, and as many of the others as you’ve got the patience to build.   • Link Exchanges – This is when blogger A links to blogger B, and blogger B reciprocates. Generally you’ll be able to choose the keyword and anchor text to be used which goes a lot further than a link using just your name, or domain name.
  • Paid Links – This is where you pay for the link on a site (usually on a monthly or annual basis). These links are against Google’s TOS (terms of service) and can get you penalized if someone reports you, or if you’re found out some other way. I’d recommend staying away from these.
  • Web 2.0 Properties are a great place to expand your reach while at the same time getting a link that can then be improved (by building links to the property itself). Squidoo, Hubpages, and Blogger are just a few of the literally hundreds that are available to use freely.

Now there are many more links a person can get such as software download sites (create, or have a piece of handy software designed and then upload it to the hundreds of high ranking software sites that are online. Images, Video’s, eBooks and more can all be used to generate links to your website. The only limits are your imagination and creativity.

All this link building effort should be tracked so that you can see at a glance where and how your links are being placed as well as the effect they are having on your site’s rankings. A few things you might want to keep track of are:

  • Date – this is the date the link went live, you can also note dates you checked to see if the link was still in place. (You’d probably only do this for your top 100 most valuable links)
  • URL – Location or website the link is on.
  • Contact or email of the person or site owner responsible for placing the link.
  • Anchor text used to link back to you.
  • PageRank, or authority of the domain, or individual page. (A good trick is to build links to these links in order to increase their PageRank. Most website owners will also be improving their sites which will eventually trickle down to the individual articles themselves so over time all your links could become much more valuable and powerful.
  • Where the link is pointing on your site. (Homepage, individual post, etc.)
  • Notes Section – As you notice increases in keyword rankings or PageRank you can jot them down here.

There might be other aspects you’d like to track and there are no hard and fast rules, but the simple act of tracking your links serves to act as a performance document and tracking sheet. It also tends to lend itself toward motivation, because most of us like to see measurable results increasing over time as a direct result of our efforts. And last it also serves to legitimize your blog, or business. Inventory lists, operations manuals, sales tracking sheets, etc. all show that an individual is taking his or her blog seriously.

There are of tools, programs, or services available to you that can quickly generate a massive amount of links to your website, but unless you use them sparingly and appropriately they can end up doing you more harm than good. It’s relatively easy for someone like Google to spot the patterns that are inherent with these systems and apply a penalty to your site which will effectively “null and void” most of the link building work you’ve done.

In severe instances Google can even choose to de-index your site from their results all together leaving you in the unenviable position of trying to replace any and all traffic they would have been sending you.

Manual Link Building

Manual link building is by far the most time consuming method, but it’s also the method that gives you the most control over where and how your links are placed. There truly is an art to link building, and it’s a skill that’s important to have if you’re planning on being online for some time.

The important thing to remember is that the links you build today will continue to pay off for years to come. A link on a brand new site today could turn into a PR 5 link if the webmaster of that site puts enough work into it over the coming years. When you consider that the same is true of all the hundreds or thousands of links you build you truly get a sense of that value of manually building these links.

A truly ambition blogger will even take it to the next level by building links to that other persons website in order to improve the rankings of the page his or her link is on. Link building is an ongoing process that should be continued for the life of your website. Over time as your own authority and PageRank improve the value of your site will also continue to increase, and the potential earnings will improve. A 125×125 banner ad on a PR2 website might bring in $20, or $30 dollars monthly, but the same 125×125 banner on a PR7 site will fetch closer to ten times that amount.

In the last couple months Google has been hard at work rolling out its new automated bidding platform to allow for advertisers to further optimize their paid search marketing campaigns. They have done this by allowing for automation to their Ad Groups, Ads, Keywords and Campaigns all within the AdWords interface.  You are probably wondering how this is going to change the search marketing landscape?  Allow me to explain.

Most users pause an ad or a keyword when it has spent its allocated budget; with the new automated tools you will be able to take the manual work out of the equation by setting a simple rule that allows you to pause a keyword or ad when it reaches a set limit.  The automation doesn’t stop there, you will also be able to automate the bid changes and budget changes by raising or lowering them incrementally when the conversion rate drops or raise or lower budgets based on a particular day of the week.  This means that for your internet marketing you will have much more optimized campaigns but at the same time will mean that you might end up paying more than you would have needed to otherwise for a certain keyword or ad.

So is it worthwhile to use Google’s built in automation tools, or would you be better suited to use an enterprise level software the likes of Marin, Kenshoo, or Acquisio?  The answer to that relies on a number of factors, namely your budget, but also the depth in which you want to be able to control the automation.  It will definitely be suitable for smaller businesses that have simple campaigns and are just measuring performance based on clicks, impressions and conversions.  If your business doesn’t have the in-house resources to manage a full scale PPC campaign it would also prove more than worthy. The percentage of profit margins may also be a determining factor. If you have small profit margins, going over your budget may have you losing money. In which case you don’t want to enable this automation.

While the paid PPC bidding platforms may be affected by Google rolling out their own built in automation, I don’t think they will take that much of a hit simply due to the fact that Google’s tool is still in its infancy, but also due to the fact that it isn’t very robust in terms of creating complex algorithms or customized bidding rules.  Most of Google’s PPC bidding rules are fairly simplistic in nature, and having access to much more powerful rules and automated tools is still valuable in the space.

So how does it work you might be wondering?  When creating a rule you simply set an automatic action that is triggered when the preset requirements are met.  They can be day-parted as a one-time run rule or you can have them run daily, bi-weekly or even monthly at your own discretion.  An example of a rule one might use to optimize their campaign’s keywords would be to increase the max. CPC when the keyword falls below a certain threshold (like being on the top page)

All in all Google’s automated rules allow for much more sophisticated PPC campaigns and will allows marketers and businesses alike to further optimize their search campaigns which in the end will only be a better result for their marketing initiatives.  So get out there any optimize your campaigns, automation awaits you!

The use of keywords are a hotly debated topic in the SEO world—so much so that it’s unclear about whether we should care about them or not. The short answer is: yes, they matter. However, keywords should not be used as the focus, but rather the starting point of content creation. Of course it makes sense that a flower shop should include keywords about roses and anniversaries, but don’t put  so much emphasis on the words that you fail to put them into context beautifully. Choose some of your most important keywords, then use them as seeds to sprout natural, useful content—and if you’re creating copy that is relevant to your business and audience, the right keywords should fall into place.

Do Link Where Links Are Due

Ever heard the theory that you can you can protect your precious PageRank by sculpting it with dofollow and nofollow attributes? To be fair, the basic idea of Pagerank does logically follow that 2  dofollow links on a page ranked 6 count for more than 4 dofollow links from the same page. However, obsessively controlling your links with nofollow attributes fails to take into account that Google seeks to reward informative and helpful websites—which includes websites that link to other helpful websites. If you don’t believe me, take it from Google engineer Matt Cutts (on his blog):

“I wouldn’t recommend (Page Rank Sculpting), because it isn’t the most effective way to utilize your PageRank. In general, I would let PageRank flow freely within your site.” In fact, he elaborates that parts of Google’s system rewards links to “good sites.”

Link Meaningfully

Sure, a tacky, meaningless link could add a little something to your ranking. But what’s the point of ranking well if you don’t have visitors? I’m talking about paid links and other quick, dirty link tactics. When you look at linking from a user’s standpoint, there’s really no use for it unless there’s something in it for number one. So while you’re looking for inbound links, put yourself in the user’s shoes, and ask yourself what would cause someone to want to click that link to your website. Perhaps you posted a thoughtful guest blog post—now some people are wanting to learn more about you, and perhaps get more useful information from your blog. Maybe if you joined a discussion in a forum or comment thread, adding meaningful information, others in the conversation might decide to investigate your expertise a little further. Does it require more time and brain juices? You bet. Is it worth the effort for good traffic along with your inbound link? Absolutely.

Page Authority and the science behind search engine optimization

 

The term ‘Page authority’ is used mainly to express the search engine evaluation of a web pages value. Often with modern search engines the higher your page authority the better chance you have for high ranking and traffic. Often it’s quite difficult to explain why the authority of one page is more than that of another. However much of this is due to how search engines measure authority.

Those new to the area of search engine optimization may have a hard time understanding the science behind search engine algorithms and their impact on page value assessment, however these algorithms and their continual changes often have an enormous effect on rakings.  Search engines apply their own algorithm-based guidelines to determine the page authority of particular website and analyze and organize website rankings based on those guidelines.

The exact method of how search engine algorithms access page authority is not disclosed to the public, however it can be assumed that there are elements of human logic behind these assessments.

Factors shown to influence page authority.

AGE: The older a webpage, the more its authority. To say precisely, age and authority of a website go hand in hand may sound unconvincing, but research has show this to be true.

It is always good to be first in a game and just like a company that been in businesses for centuries an aged webpage is a great signal of authority.

CONTENT: It is undeniable that a well researched, well structured, content improves page authority. As the old adage goes content is king. This is why in the field of Internet Marketing a lot of focus is spent on optimizing article titles and content.

INDEXING: Indexing of a website’s pages by the search engine is another important factor to consider when it comes to determining a site’s page authority. Much like a book, achieves its value only when it stands out amongst the other books on the shelf, webpage’s to must be easily found in order to be recognized.

LINK AUTHORITY:

A fair number of other websites with higher page authority linking back to a webpage increases passes on value thus increasing a websites page authority. It’s by this principal that Search engines evaluate the trust factor of the webpage. It’s similar to product endorsements from famous and popular celebrity or fashion icon. 

BACLLINK RELEVANCE

The relevance of the subject matter of websites linking back to a specific webpage is another considerable factor that helps improve page authority. Web pages that have back links from sites in the same area of interest are similar to academic papers that reference other papers in the same field. When back links share relevance, this sends signals to search engines saying the page has authority.

It’s said that some search engines have over three hundred variables for determining ranking, so the above mentioned points are really only a starting place for understanding how search engine rankings work. Nevertheless, these observations should demonstrate the importance of page authority and provide insight into the role it plays in the search engine ranking of a website.
