Work/Life Balance when Working from Home

Work Life Balance

When you work from home, either blogging, freelance writing, or doing SEO (search engine optimization), it can be easy to either fall too deeply into the work or be tempted to take too much time off. In order to properly balance the amount of work you do with your personal time by limiting the amount of your life you’re willing to devote to working. There are a few easy things you can do in order to get enough work done without letting it take over your life, and here we’ll go over a few of these simple tricks so you can keep your life in balance.

The first rule of working from home, whether you do light blogging or more intensive internet marketing and SEO, is to stay organized. Even though you can probably make your own hours and work as much as you want, it’s probably a good idea to have a set time every day that you put aside for work. By having this pre-determined time each day, you can have a few hours where you can sit at the computer without feeling rushed, and get your work done in a comfortable environment. It might help to make that time part of the day where you have nothing else to do, in order to decrease the number of distractions.

In contrast, working for a set period each day can also start to feel like being stuck in a rut, so it sometimes helps to change up your schedule. The great thing about working from home is that you have control over the amount of time you spend working, as well as when you choose to work. If you feel like you need a change of pace, then trying a different time for work or even splitting up your workday into two or more segments can help.

Balancing your free time and personal life with your work day can be tricky when you work from a home computer, especially if many of the ways you relax or take time to yourself involve a computer or other screen (blogging, movies, games, etc.). In fact, often times going from working on a computer to relaxing on a computer can feel like you’re still working, so it’s important to take breaks from the screen and find other ways to take time off from work. Making sure you get out of the house after working is a good way to take the stress off.

SEO Tips

SEO Tips

Search engine optimization, also known as SEO, is an important aspect of internet marketing and is crucial for virtually every website that wants to bring in more traffic. Whether you make money blogging and want to increase your readership, or run an e-business and want to attract more potential customers, search engine optimization should play a large role in your ability to do so. Here, we’ll go over a few simple tips that you can use to boost your search engine ranking, as well a little bit about how search engine optimization works.

Search engine optimization relies upon and takes advantage of the way in which search engines compile databases of websites. Whenever a user inputs a query in the form of key words or phrases, the search engine “crawls” the web looking for matches for those key words. After the search engine has a list of websites it thinks fit what the user is looking for, it compiles them into a results page. A number of different factors go into determining the resulting “rank” (how early in the results page a site appears) of the various websites, and using these factors to your advantage is a key aspect of SEO.

There are two different types of SEO: black hat and white hat. Black hat optimization uses deceitful or dishonest methods such as cloaking, hidden text, and unauthorized redirection to trick search engines and users alike, and should be avoided. In fact, search engines that catch sites using black hat SEO typically ban them from their results pages. White hat SEO relies on the creation of high quality content that users will want to read or watch, and thus the best way to optimize your website (and also the simplest) is to create content for it.

Including particular key words or phrases that relate to your products or services can increase your search engine rank for those same words. For example, an e-business that sells e-books might create a business blog and write some articles on the benefits of “cheap e-books,” or mention how they have a large “e-book library.” There are plenty of tools you can use to determine which key phrases will help you the most. Search engine optimization is a useful tool for drawing in large numbers of users to your site, and if your e-business or blog relies on readers and users to generate income, you should take advantage of SEO as soon as you can.

Advertising on your Blog

Advertising on your Blog

If you have a blog, you may have considered the possibility of adding advertising space to it in order to make a few bucks on the side. However, you may or may not know that a blog can be a reliable source of income, and some people support themselves entirely by operating one or even more blogs with advertising space on them. It is becoming more and more common for people that want to work from home to make money blogging. Turning your blog into a source of income is easier than you think, and here we’ll go over a few internet marketing tricks you can use to sell advertising space on your blog, as well as how to get the most money out of it.

The first step in making money from your blog is to increase the number of users that read it. Even if you have a substantial number of regular users, the more readers you draw in the more money you will make from your advertisements. One of the best ways to increase your readership is, simply, to create more content. Blogs with more content are more likely to appear early on in search engine results pages, making your blog more visible. Promoting your blog on forums, sending links to friends, and other similar tactics will also increase the number of incoming links and people that visit your site.

There are a few different kinds of online advertisements, and which type you host can make a significant difference in the amount of money you make. Firstly, there is pay per impression, or PPI, advertising. PPI advertisements provide a small amount of money for each time a user visits the page and loads the advertisement. These types of advertisements pay so little because of the low chance that a user will actually interact with the ad, but a high volume of traffic and a steady flow of users guarantees that the ads will pay. This type of ad is ideal for blogs that have lots of readers.

Another type of online marketing ad is CPA, or cost per action. Cost per action advertisements only pay the host when a user actually performs a predetermined action, such as buying a products or filling out a survey. However, these ads pay significantly more than PPI ads when this action is completed, so many blogs rely on incentives for their readers to perform the action.

Can You Make a Living Blogging?

Blogging for a living

You’ve probably heard a lot of stories about people on the internet being able to make a fortune from blogging, and you may (rightly so) have questioned the legitimacy of these claims. Just how realistic is it to expect to be able to make money blogging, and if it can be done, then how much work does it take? The answer is not as simple as you might think, and here we’ll go over a few of the different aspects that go into blogging for a living, as well as how you can work from home with your very own blog if you decide you want to take a crack at it.

Blogging for a living is certainly possible, but it takes determination and hard work. At first, your blog will likely have few readers, and might not generate any income at all. By building up posts, promoting your blog by linking to it on forums, sending the address to friends, and more, you can start to attract new readers. Blogs that have more readers and have more incoming links (other sites that link to your blog) tend to naturally be featured earlier on in search results, giving you even more readership.

The first thing you need to know about trying to make a living from blogging is that there are, quite literally, tens, even hundreds of thousands of other active blogs with which you will be competing for readership. Thus, it is important to try and find something that is not only unique and interesting, but also something you know well enough to draw readers based on your experience and expertise. The rules for blogging are much the same as those in any writing: you write what you know. Choose a topic that you not only know well, but enjoy writing about.

If you want to make money blogging, there are a few ways to do so. Some sites will sponsor bloggers, so simply by having people read your work, you can start to make money. These sites typically encourage bloggers to write about a specific area or theme, such as travel, food, health, and so on. If your blog generates enough readership, it’s possible to sell advertising space on your page in order to generate extra income. You can also get sponsored by online businesses, in order to plug their products in your posts. The possibilities are limited only by your creativity.

Article Syndication

Article Syndication

Article syndication is an internet marketing technique that provides a unique type of content for web sites, and has a particular set of advantages and disadvantages. While article syndication appears in many ways to be similar to SEO or search engine optimization (and in many ways it is similar), there are a few key differences that set the two apart. Here, we’ll go over some information on how article syndication works, how it can be used, and the benefits it provides as far as internet marketing is concerned.

Article syndication is the practice of “renting” articles from a large database in order to beef up the content of a website. Essentially the webmaster pays a set fee to the article syndicate, and then selects a category or subject and is given a fair to large number of articles for his or her website. Up to this point, article syndication and SEO are quite similar. The primary difference between the two is that in SEO, the articles are created specifically for the website that is buying them, whereas in article syndication they are drawn from a large pool of already existing articles.

This impacts the effect the articles have on the website purchasing them in a number of ways. Firstly, articles taken from an article syndicate will not help optimize a site for search engines (at least, not most major search engines), because they are duplicate content, and duplicate content is typically ignored by search engines. Search engine optimized articles are unique, thus increasing the likelihood of the site that hosts them appearing early on in search engine results pages. However, even though the articles from the syndicate are not unique, they still provide a number of benefits to the website.

Articles from a syndicate provide the website with a large amount of content for very little cost, and are an effective tool for internet marketing a particular product or website. Article syndication also helps establish brand recognition for individual products or entire websites, and can give users the impression that a website has a large amount of unique content (most users will not recognize the articles as duplicates). If you are looking for a cost effective way to increase the amount of content on your site, then investing in article syndication can significantly improve your site’s appearance. Article syndication is an easy to use, low cost solution for internet marketing.

Where to get Backlinks

Where to find backlinks

Back links are an integral part of every SEO (search engine optimization) campaign, because they play a significant role in determining the search engine ranking, or how early the site appears in the results pages, of a given website. Having a large number of high quality back links can significantly boost the search engine rank of a page, and here we’ll go over what back links are, why they are important, and where you can get them.

A back link is, essentially, any incoming link from another website. There are a few key factors that go into determining the usefulness of the back links to your web page. Firstly, the “quality” of back links refers to the volume of traffic going to the website from which the back links are coming. Basically, the more users that visit a site that links to you, the more likely you are to get more traffic as a result (even from users not following those links). Secondly, the number of back links also plays a large role in SEO, although there must be a balance between quality and quantity. A huge number of back links from a site that nobody visits are equally as worthless as a single back link from the most popular website in the world.

Where you get your back links will impact both the quality and number of back links you receive. Of course, while it is possible to make back links yourself, it is much more time effective to have a group of professionals handle the job. There are a number of different websites and e-business sites that provide large numbers of back links (usually about a thousand at a time) for a relatively small fee. The quality of these back links varies, however, and it’s important to be able to gauge the effectiveness of the links before you buy.

If you want to increase the number of readers that come to your blog, or if you work from home running your own e-business and want to build traffic and bring in customers, then you will need to optimize your website. SEO is a relatively easy way to significantly increase the number of users that come to your site, and back linking is an important aspect of ever search engine optimization campaign. By building a large number of quality back links, you can bring in lots of new traffic to any site.

Directory Submissions Made Easy

RoboForm for Directory Backlinks

Building backlinks to your blog is one of the challenges that you’re going to face on a regular basis. One source that’s available to you is directory submissions. Web directories offer both a backlink to your site, as well as a description which if someone comes across it, may just click through to visit your site.

If you’ve ever spent any time at all filling out all the fields at one of these directories, you’re really going to appreciate what I’m going to show you here today. Part of my backlink strategy involves submitting my websites to 10 different directories each day, which gives me a nice consistent growth of backlinks in Google’s eyes.

There’s a program out there called RoboForm that does a couple of different tasks. 1. It will store all your login details for all your password protected sites, allowing you to have one master password that you use to access RoboForm, and then it fills out the details according to which sites your visiting. All passwords and information is also encrypted further protecting your data.

It’s RoboForm’s second feature though that is going to save you a ton of time filling out those directory submissions that can take forever.

Under the identity feature in RoboForm, there is a “custom” tab that you can setup to your specifications.

In the first empty field you can type what RoboForm is to look for on the page, and whenever it encounters a page displaying a field titled “Description” it will use the field value to fill that field, in this case the field value is the description I’d like to type into each SEO friendly directory I’m trying to submit my site too. The next field you’re going to encounter on each directory site is the title, or website field, here you enter the title of your blog, or website.
Last is the keywords used to describe your site (you’ll notice that on the other side I’ve put “tags” because I’ve found some directories use the work “keywords”, and other’s use “tags”).

Now, I’ll save this as an identity in RoboForm, and we’re all set.  This will take care of the majority of the tedious work involved in directory submissions, and where a single submission used to take approximately 2 minutes each, they now take about 10 seconds.

When looking for a good source of SEO friendly directories that don’t require a reciprocal link, I’ve found two great sources.

Both of these directories are a great resource and are updated constantly. They even go so far as to list the directories by Page rank, so you can pick and choose those with some PR behind them already.

Tips for Generating More Readers to your Blog

Generating More Readers

One of the toughest things to do when trying to work seriously on a blog is draw in more readers. However, this is also an important aspect of getting exposure for your work, and if you work from home on a blog for a living, then it’s also crucial for making money. Regardless of how your blog generates income, it likely relies heavily on bringing in traffic in order to do so. Here, we’ll go over a few simple tips for getting more readership, both in terms of the blog itself as well as outside it.

The obvious answer to the problem of bringing in more readers is to expand the amount of content your blog contains. This is effective for several reasons: firstly, because the more content your blog has, the more content there is that has a chance of attracting a particular reader. Secondly, web pages with large amounts of rich content (that is, text, video, etc.) are more likely to be crawled by search engines than sites that are relatively devoid of it. This means that simply by creating more content for your blog, you are effectively optimizing it for certain key terms in search engine queries. For example, writing a few entries or posting a video about your dog doing hilarious tricks will dramatically increase the number of readers who see your blog when they search the internet for blogs, videos, and so forth regarding dogs doing hilarious tricks.

A somewhat more convoluted way of increasing your readership is to actively promote your blog. This can be done in a number of ways, either by posting links to your blog on related forums (if you have a fishing blog, registering at some fishing forums and promoting it there will get the best results), or by sending your friends in social networking groups a link to your site.

Lastly, you can try to increase your blog’s readership by improving its link popularity. Link popularity relies on the number of incoming links from other sites, and the quality of those links (are they sites that are frequently visited by real users, or not). It also directly impacts the likelihood of your site coming up on a search engine results page. That said, often the easiest way to get more readers for your blog is simply by blogging, although other tactics can also help you tip the scales.

Social Media Tools

Social Media Tools

The explosion of social media on the internet is a relatively recent phenomenon, perhaps originating with sites like MySpace and more recently evolving into global networks such as Facebook and Twitter. While the majority of people use these sites primarily for keeping in touch with friends, planning events, and sharing photos, news, and more, many businesses have also taken advantage of the way they work in order to promote new products and services. Here, we’ll go over how to use social media as internet marketing tools, as well as how your real world or e-business can benefit from using them as promotional techniques.

Social media websites provide a unique playing field for businesses, because of the unusual relationship that consumers have with the site. One of the most useful aspects of social networking sites, such as Facebook, is that users typically enter a fair amount of personal information to the site. Businesses that want to purchase advertising space on the site have the benefit of not only having their ads seen by literally hundreds of millions of people (Facebook has over five hundred million users), but also of being able to target their advertising at certain users based on the personal information entered.

For example, suppose you run a company that makes clothes designed for women between the ages of sixteen and twenty-eight. You can use these parameters to ensure that your ads are displayed only on the pages of women in this age group, thus increasing the likelihood of those viewing the ad actually being interested in your product. You could specialize it further and advertise clothes made from sustainable materials, and have those ads be displayed on the pages of users who create notes, status updates, and other posts with a few key terms. Web 2.0 internet marketing tools can take great advantage of the way social networking and media sites work, allowing you to get significantly more effective results.

Another type of internet marketing strategy that is particularly effective on social media and networking sites is viral marketing. Viral marketing relies heavily on individual users who are not affiliated with the original advertiser helping the advertisement reproduce. This self-perpetuating style of advertising is often best suited to ads that are funny, strange, or otherwise stand out. By allowing users to do the advertising for you, you can simply sit back and allow the marketing strategy to work for free.

Article Marketing Tips

Article Marketing Tips

If you run an e-business or other website as a source of income, then you are probably constantly looking for ways to increase the amount of traffic to your site. Even if you make money blogging and have a few ads on the site, you can greatly benefit from upping the number of readers you have. Article marketing is a unique type of web promotion that can significantly impact the traffic to a web site, as well as several other factors. Here, we’ll go over a few of the ways you can use article marketing to your advantage, as well as how the process itself works.

Article marketing is an effective form of internet marketing that allows websites to increase the number of users that visit their site, as well as the sale conversion rate of those users. This form of SEO (search engine optimization) also provides the site with a solid amount of rich, valuable content that users actually want to see. This not only increases the amount of traffic to a website (meaning more revenue from ads and more potential customers), but also gives a site a professional, complete appearance that many users look for.

Another benefit of article marketing is the relatively low cost to the webmaster. An entire site’s worth of content can be created relatively quickly, and for a modest fee, allowing you to significantly beef up the content of a website without using any of your own time and little of your funds. If you are looking for a way to increase the amount of information regarding products or services your e-business provides, then article marketing is the perfect way to do so.

Article marketing helps increase the amount of traffic to your site because of the way search engines rank pages. Search engines send out automated pieces of code called crawlers to browse through websites and look at text, video, images, and so on. This information is sent back to the search engine, and is compiled into a database. Therefore, when you include articles on a given topic that relates to your website (say, articles on auto repair on your website about cars), the chances of your website appearing earlier in the search results page for related searches are increased. Search engines also try to ensure that the content on a given page is unique, meaning that the creation of articles specifically for your site is important.
